A great little market with a good choice of food and drinks. The only problem is that it gets very busy so you're better off avoiding peak meal times if you actually want to eat.

If you are looking for a place where you can try almost everything? This is the place to be! It is not your typical market since it sells raw and cooked food, there are also a number of wine sellers and a few bars inside where you can order drinks while walking around the market. Be weary though just because... More

Very busy and not easy to get a seat, but its well worth persevering as its all excellent. Not overpriced and there is something for everyone. Lots of real taste sensations. We loved it as a middle of the day snack stop, as we don't tend to do lunch, and also a glass of wine stop before dinner. We loved... More

I've been there with two friends. We heard about the place and we went to check it out. It's a market all the way, you can buy fruits and so many juices and sweets but most of all it's really cool to hang out in the evening for a drink and a light dinner. You can find all kind of... More

Good for a single visit, but value for money IMHO = it fell short. If you don't like a crowded atmosphere, then this place is not for you - unless you go during the first 2 hrs after they open.

It's a market in which you can eat fish, Spanish ham, cakes, fruit, and very good wines. The location is fantastic with a lot o people taking the opportunity to stay together while heating some small dishes. A must in Madrid

The best place to indulge in tapas. It's a very chilled and trendy place to hang out while to eat delicious food and drink wine, beer or cocktails. Food is sold as tapas. Prices are good. Limited seating available. Really is worth a visit and it's seems to be a place that is visited by lots of tourists

Vibrant wonderful. Not so much a market as one big food fest! Seafood tapas, fruit and champagne party atmosphere on a Friday lunchtime! Wow.

Mercado San Miguel is a nice place to share a bit of spanish culture in terms of food. Many crowded stalls selling the typical "tapas" (small portions of every thing spanish cuisine does) . In the end, as we are tempted to try a bit of this and a bit of that, the bill increases. By night its almost impossible... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
