A culinary overview of Spain in a refined, yet confined space. A tapas tour de force: paellas, jamon, baked goods, calamari, bocadillos (sandwiches), pintxos from the Basque region, fresh and fried seafood, wine, beer, and salads. A bit on the touristy side, but the place is very well conceptualized I'd recommend it anyway. Recommendations: Black Paella (Negra), Honey Mustard Bacalao... More

A wonderful bustling market which is good for a dekko or even to grab a quick bite. Being a vegetarian I had plenty of options from the good old gazpacho to the option of a risotto. There are plenty of fruits, desserts, tapas options and the place still retains an old world charm to it. You might struggle with a... More

Nice place to hang out and get a taste of the local atmosphere. Great food, tapas, drinks, fresh sea food. Very close to Plaza Mayor

No doubt this is a classy nicely done place with lots of variety of food and drink available, but the prices are significantly higher than might be considered reasonable, even taking account of the quality. Packed at the weekends, so best avoided then.

Visited here on 29th Dec early morning and had a pleasant walk around taking in all the local delicacies. We then returned at noon for lunch but the experience wasn't as pleasant as there were very large crowds. We bought tapas from one stall and then churros and chocolate sauce from another but we struggled to find a space to... More

My cousin and I were in Madrid and were recommended to go here. We went and loved it. Stayed for about an hour. Food was amazing. All very fresh. If your in the mood for tapas in Madrid this is the place. Hope to go visit again very soon.

The first time we went to have a look it was absolutely heaving and is a clear favourite with both locals and tourists alike. As we weren't hungry that time we decided not to look round but went back another day (and then returned again). It was a great way to try some tapas and good pastries. Definitely worth a... More

I always take my friends here who come to visit Spain to experience the taste of Spain. Although I'm pretty sure that not every dish under this roof is the best of all parts of spain, but one surely gets familiarised with the specialities of Spanish food. It is a bit pricy for the portion you get to try, obviously... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
