A party of six, we booked this trip through CaminoWays.com and were originally scheduled to travel in May 2020. That didn’t happen and we rescheduled to June 2022. This was our second trip with CaminoWays [did the last section of the Camino/French Way into Santiago de Compostela in 2018] and will definitely use them again even if the impact of the lockdown and pandemic on staff levels was evident in our dealings with the company. Great to see they’re still going. May/June is said to be a good time to go to Tuscany, but not this year with a heatwave. Some afternoons hit 35C and with very little shade, those longer walking days were really difficult. On the plus side the Tuscan scenery is just beautiful and, for a hike similar in distance to the stretch into Santiago, a much more attractive and interesting landscape to walk through. Accommodation was very good – and superior to what we had in Spain – that could well be down to the fact that it’s a much less busy walk, so fewer hotels, hostels etc are catering exclusively to walkers. An interesting observation from the host in one place we stayed – they were completely booked out that night with us and other walkers – in fact some of our group had to stay elsewhere – but the host wondered why the companies that organise these walks do it in such a way that so many hikers were looking for accommodation in the same town on the same night. She had no-one the following night. Perhaps that’s because most people start the walk in Lucca on a Saturday like we did. Food was also good – even if we found the local custom of Primo and Secondi courses was simply too much food. On the downside – signage was nothing like as good as on the Camino in Spain – quite often we were relying on small stickers on lamp posts that were easy to miss – and very easy to confuse with the cycling route – and sometimes the horse riding route. That’s feedback for the Tuscan tourist authorities perhaps. What would have been really useful to get from CaminoWays.com was a much more detailed written guide. More detail like we had in Spain - to include terrain, general directions, how long before getting out of town, distances between towns and most importantly of all, information on locations to get food. On one of the longer days of close to 30k, while there was water, there was nowhere to get food. It would have been great to know this in advance so we could have brought a picnic. Would I go again? Definitely, though maybe not in June. I’d also split the longer days so there’s more time to experience the area. Final note – took us a while to get our heads around the pronunciation of Francigena – think ‘fridge’ ‘Fran – chidge – enna’ 

This was my second Camino which I booked with CaminoWays.com. The transfers from and to the airports, the accommodation and luggage transfers between hotels were 100%. We, a group of six, also appreciate the assistance we got as we had to postpone our Camino due to a delay in obtaining our Schengen visas.

Completely misleading and did not deliver what was promised. Paid for the cottage upgrade and got 2 out of 8 nights. But still paid for all 8. Hotels were hostels and/or 1 star maybe. They sub-contract your booking which we found out because when we got to the hotel in Santiago we had no room! WE had to go find our own because the 2nd company screwed up the booking. We had to fight for a refund on a hotel we never got. They are WAY over priced. One of the crappy hotels was only 50 Euro a night and we paid well over a 100. You can forward your own luggage for 5-10 Euro, we paid 70 a day. Total crap and misrepresentation. Can't even go into how disappointed and ripped-off we feel.

Hi heatherdH3638LT, I was trying to check your booking with my colleagues but it would be easier to do if I had your booking reference number. Can you please email marketing@caminoways.com with it and I will see if there's anything else we can do for you. Many thanks and apologies that your experience didn't live up to your expectations.

DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS DISHONEST COMPANY. There are many on TripAdvisor who have had like experiences. Notice how everyone gets a copy and paste response. This company cheated me and many others by taking our money and then changing our accommodations. Here are specific examples, the hotel in Pontevedra was disgusting there was no air conditioning, I sweated so much at night that I almost dehydrated. The distance from the town center was 2 kilometers, yes two kilometers. The only thing that saved the day was dinner at Bar Pitillo because the breakfast the next morning was so old at the hotel that the ham was hard and the bread stale. The worst part was the bathroom, it had mold which other guest were also complaining about. The Hotel Cruziero had a very helpful staff at the front desk which helped get us to Termas Cuntis. Your original quote said we were getting the Hotel Acuña which has its own baths but I had to pay out of my pocket 78 Euros for the use of their facilities. I requested a reimbursement but the company disagreed. The hotel Scala like the disgusting Edal Estación is over two kilometers away from Padrón center, once again not the hotel you promised me. The front desk was rude and both the breakfast and dinner was so bad, I wouldn’t serve it to a stray dog. I am letting everyone know that be reviewing all of the changes you made giving me cheaper less quality options. but I can tell you at this moment that Camino Way Tours is NO WAY to do this pilgrimage. You have been dishonest and unclear from the beginning, changing things once I paid my final amount. The hotel in Santiago has no staff on duty at the front desk, in other words, the Alameada Rooms have a welcoming staff, but once they welcome you they are gone. There was a drip from the piping in the rooms all night of contaminated water. The AC has been on for 12 hours and it’s still an oven in here. Did you look for the cheapest accommodations in each city so you can maximize your profit? I see their are several on Trip Advisor who have similar complaints and horrible experiences with Camino Ways Tours. I’ve checked the information on all the emails and it doesn’t say you change the hotels at the last minute or after the final payment is submitted. It doesn’t sound honest to do that or to offer one package during deposit and change after final payment. How would you like if you visit my city, New York. When you send your deposit I offer you the Plaza Hotel by Cental Park. When you send the final payment, I book you into the Holiday in the Bronx. You would contact every major social media site to write about your disappointment, dissatisfaction, and out right being robbed so everyone can know what the company you booked did to you and no one else should use them. When I gave a deposit, the hotels I was offered were not standard. They were changed after I gave the final payment. I have all emails to prove it. No tour plays those games. They change your hotels after your final payment.

Hi Robert, we're sorry that your experience with us did not live up to your expectations. However, as per your emails with my colleagues, the hotels provided in a 'quote' are just examples. The final hotels are not booked until a deposit payment has been paid. From here, the best available hotels are booked with our providers. The majority of the hotels on the Camino are not 'destination hotels' but they are standard and clean hotels that are used to welcoming pilgrims every year. Once again, we are sorry that your experience wasn't up to your expectations.

I had travelled with Ca.ino ways before and they were very good unfortunately that all seems to have changed in the past 12 months. From multiple mistakes on the booking that I has to get them to fix to not answering phones when I rang and taking anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks to reply to emails(emailed them because they fidnt answer the phone). That was frustrating enough but the icing on the cake was after our first day walking the hotel hadn't received our booking from Camino ways. Thankfully they had 3 rooms left do our group got accommodated by the hotel. On all but 2 nights the couple in our group were booked into a twin room even though they booked a double room. When they questioned this in some of the hotels the response was that that was how Camino ways booked it with them. Our booking said double room but the hotel received twin room from camino ways. Camino ways standards have fallen so low these past 12 months that I and the others in our group will seek different company for future bookings. On return to Ireland I filled out their survey feedback and outlined all the above, that was almost 2 weeks ago, still haven't heard anything back from them or received an apology fir all the mistakes they made, don't expect to either as they don't seem to want to engage with their customers once they have received payment. Disappointed to say the least as they had been so good in the past.
