Always something to learn!

After walking through the Roman part of Tarragona we ventured a little further away via Via Augusta. On the map we had discovered a few more Unesco monuments and we tried to find them. It appeared to be a funeral monument. This monument belongs to the Tarragona archaeological site, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Close to the Via Augusta. It is built of ashlar stone. It consists of three parts, a lower podium, a central part decorated with figures in high relief, and the upper part should have been covered by a pyramid structure, but was never built. The tower is the funerary monument of the Scipio family.

Roman ruins close to the road
Mar 2018 • Family
La Torre de los Escipions (Scipions Tower) are ruins of a Roman construction. It is a tower, which is a funerary monument. It is located close to the N-340 road, near Tarragona. Near this place there are some other Roman monuments. Pitifully, it is only a tower and you can see it in few minutes. So, it is interesting, but not exceptional.

It's interesting, take few minutes to read the history of this place. It's always exciting to see remains of such ancient sites. One negative that it is on the busy main road and despite of being able to park few meters away you still have to cross the busy road. Otherwise great.
