Overview
More
The cathedral is dedicated to St Thecla and is erected at the top of the acropolis or hill of the ancient city. Its construction began in the year 1171 and it was consecrated on 4 July 1331. Its foundations and later architectural development are located on the remains of an ancient Roman construction begun in the second quarter of the 1st century bc. and completed at the beginning of the Vespasian Empire (69-79 AD). The Cathedral is gothic in style. Its floor plan is in the form of a Latin cross, with three naves each with their own apses and transept. The head is of Romanesque tradition with half-point arches supporting the extension of the stone wall and pilasters following the new constructive techniques of the Gothic movement.

What can I say? Absolutely stunning place! So grand and very informative. The sheer beauty is unbelievable, you have to be there to appreciate it. There is even a little courtyard garden to enjoy. I’d highly recommend it.

I've visited around 25 Spanish towns and cities and viewed most of their cathedrals, but Tarragona's is, to me, one of the best. Much larger inside than I was expecting, the side chapels and architecture are quite stunning and the cloister with its gardens is...More

The beautiful Basilica is at the top of a steep stairway in the old town of Tarragona. Has a great entry with lots of carved decorations around the door and is very pretty inside.

Worth every penny. Looks tiny from the outside but it is a beautiful Tardis. I’ve visited many cathedrals in Spain, but this is a little beauty. So much to see. This is a must see if you are in Tarragona

Dedicate to the female martyr Saint Tecla. This Cathedral is built on the same soil where once stood a Roman Temple of which some artifacts are still preserved in the Tarragona museum of ancient history.

We went here to see the medieval church, we had it all a wedding, jazz, and wonderful beer. The establishment we had our refreshments in must have been same time as church but I’ll let you be the judge of that
