Amazing day trip from Barcelona

Girona a.k.a. Kings Landing!!!
Many people think of Girona as the place that cheap Ryanair flights fly out from. But it’s so much more than that. Girona, like many other Catalan towns, is a medieval city. However, what sets it apart is that its city walls are all still intact, and you can actually walk all around the city on its medieval walls… Amazing! The view of the city from outside its moat is also picture-perfect. Besides the architecture, Girona is also one of the best gastronomic cities in the world. The Celler de Can Roca has been voted year after year as the world’s best restaurant. If you wish to go, you’d have to make reservations 11-months in advance – if you’re lucky. One of the best day trips from Barcelona in my opinion!

To reach Girona, take a 1.5 hour bus ride from Barcelona’s Estacio de Nord.

Perfect visit to Girona and Costa Brava!

We normally travel independently and hire guides for day tours, but upon discovering Girona Experience also provided transfers, decided to have them handle all of our arrangements including transfers from Barcelona to Girona to Tossa de Mar, back to Barcelona plus three amazing tours. It was the right call! Carme was very helpful and responsive during the booking process and it was clear a lot of work went on behind the scenes so everything went smoothly. The tours were exceptional and the transfers could not have worked more efficiently.
First, the tours. All of the guides were knowledgable, professional and personable.
Monica did a wonderful job guiding the Girona History and Gastronomy Tour. Her very thorough and interesting overview of major sites and their histories gave us insight into a region previously unknown to us…it was tremendously informative and I’m glad we did it early in our visit. The Tapas and wine that followed were generous and quite delicious! A perfect way to end our first day.
The Dalí and the Bodegas Empordàlia tour was also exceptional, and we loved that it was led by someone educated in art history. Ramone’s explanation of Dali’s life experiences helped us better understand and appreciate his art once we arrived at the museum. Needless to say, his explanation of the various settings and exhibits within the museum were incredibly informative. There is no way we could have comprehended what we were seeing without Ramone’s commentary. The Bodegas Empordàlia visit was also very well done. We were grateful to try the wines of this region…they were a pleasant surprise.
Alvar did a great job leading the Costa Brava and Medieval Villages tour! We loved walking the Cami de Ronda and learning its history. Alvar helped us understand how pirates, corsairs, and the revolution helped shape the region. The villages were beautiful and lunch was a treat!
Finally the transfers: Alex was amazing…always there to pick us up on time, professional, personable, a safe/efficient driver, and he kept the van meticulously clean. It was so nice to progress through our travels without a worry.

Great Experience!

We had a great experience! Booking was super easy and affordable through GetYourGuide.com. Our guide Ona was fantastic! She messaged me on WhatsApp a hour before we were scheduled to meet. She was right on time and as it turned out it was only my wife and me so we enjoyed a private tour.

Ona grew up in Girona and even though she isn’t Jewish she was extremely knowledgeable about the Jewish history. She also gave us a fantastic restaurant lunch recommendation at L'argadà for local Catalan cuisine.

I highly recommend if you’re looking to learn about Girona and its rich Jewish history to book with Girona Experience and ask for Ona to be your guide.

Wonderful GIRONA Jewish Quarter and Jewish History Museum Tour

Our guide, Ona, was terrific. The tour included much of the Old City in addition to the Jewish Quarter. I had wondered, in advance, why we would want a tour guide to take us through the Jewish Museum when we could read the explanations accompanying the exhibits on our own. I was wrong. Ona’s extensive knowledge of Jewish history and the stories behind the exhibits made the experience far more interesting and informative than it would have been without her. Similarly, her stories about the Jewish Quarter brought it to life in a way we couldn’t have experienced on our own.

Beautiful Girona!

Absolutely loved Girona! We took a day trip from Barcelona and arrived early to walk the old city wall before starting the tour. Our guide, Ona, was very knowledgeable and took us around the beautiful old city while telling us historical stories. She also pointed out GoT filming locations, which was a bonus. There were 4 of us on the tour and there was lots of personalized attention. Excellent!

Girona. Game of Thrones Tour. We can strongly recommend this tour, also with children. Ona made her best to adapt the mixed group and took us through Girona old town combining English and Spanish. She not only focused on the serie but also gave us some good recommendations to enjoy and learn more about Girona. We were able to ask at any time and got the answers needed from her. Thanks so much!

Totally worth the money!

What a wonderful time we had! Not only is Girona a gorgeous place to visit (yes, the GOT connection did make it special to us as an eye catcher), but we really had the Best Guide in Ona!!
She was patient enough to wait for us because our train ran late, and was an amazing, intelligent and interesting guide. She was well versed with the geography and politics of the area and took her time to patiently run us through the highlights of the town!
Asje her for her restaurant recommendation as well - we visited La Taverna d'El Foment as suggested by her, and enjoyed our meal!

Unforgettable educational historical experience

This was the greatest day-trip in our 4-day visit to Barcelona. Our tour guide was Alvar who is not only amazing connoisseur of history of Catalania, he is a great EDUCATOR of history as whole. What important is that he truly loves what he is doing ( history/philosophy of Catalania) and shared his passion with us. Traveled with 2 teenagers who enjoyed the entire tour ( 4+hrs).

An Enchanting Day in Girona

Our guides was entertaining and informative. He shared much of the Catalanian folklore and history of Girona. We visited beautiful hidden streets that you may not find on your own. At each step along the way, he ensured our questions were answered.

At the conclusion of the tour he offered great recommendations for food and snacks. In addition, he wanted to ensure everyone had all of their questions answered and needed no further assistance. As an added bonus, he was great with the 6 year old on the tour.

Gerona - neither attractive nor special in any way - boring and plain.

Very boring town. We were visiting Barcelona, stayed in Gothic Quarter. After gorgeous awe Barcelona streets and cathedrals we decided to take one day from never enough gorgeous Barcelona to Girona. What a disappointment. Boring ugly town with no aura, surprisingly spiritless in spite of few interesting ancient monuments, with very few restaurants and even fewer tasty ones - what a huge contrast from Barcelona. Regretting wasted time steeling from ourselves one day from 12 days trip to Barcelona.
