Girona Art Museum is located in the incomparable setting of the former Bishop’s Palace, a building first documented in the 10th century. It now houses the most important art collection in Girona province, with pieces dating from Romanesque times to the early 20th century. The building still conserves several spaces that bear witness to its original function, notably the Episcopal gaol and the superb garden, open to the public on several occasions throughout the year.

Worth a look if you are interested in religious art, somewhat heavy if not. Very quiet, get the impression most folks don't call in, although it's only another 3€ on top of your cathedral admission or 4.5 € if visiting gallery only.

wonderful museum tucked away in the old city near the cathedral . A beautiful building where one can meander through huge rooms and intimate corners to view some of the marvelous art from medieval Catalonia. One has to fall in awe and humility to comprehend the naive and genuine talents of the artists who gave their best to represent the... More

This museum is housed in the former Bishop's palace beside the Cathedral. Most of the collection are Romanesque and Gothic works, these are also the best works in the collection. There are also works up to the twentieth century. In particular Romanesque works dominate the museum with a large number of intricate architectural elements, paintings and sculptures forming the basis... More

This collection was the highlight of my short trip to N. Spain. SO much more than merely interesting, The heartfelt and very personal work which went into the figures of the Madonna - at a time when she was allowed to be portrayed as a real woman. . . I was gobsmacked at the living personalities portrayed in the faces.... More

This museum is interesting because of its beautiful collection of Virgin with child. Quite easy and fast to visit, but with great emotions.

Fantastic old building. Decent collection. Don't bother with the audioguide - the list of selected works and some postings in English give enough information. This museum has some displays that add interest; for example, pigment sources and how stained glass is made.

It is always nice to see art by those other than the big generally recognised names. There are some really interesting pieces here and there are certainly a lot of them! What was particularly nice was a small exhibition of paint colours and the items they are made from. Just a pity that the only language is Catalan, makes it... More

A great building and excellent collection of medieval religious and some more recent (well 19th century) paintings. Some wonderful stonework too, and other wooden statues. Easiest way is to go towards the toilet area, catch the lift to the 5th floor and work your way back down. Don't miss the prison (preso) in room 11, with the 300 year old... More

Not for the unsteady on their feet! This museum has an extraordinary collection of ecclesiastical art but it's stored over several floors and you will need to be fairly mobile to enjoy the experience but it's worth a visit for sure.
