About
Girona Art Museum is located in the incomparable setting of the former Bishop’s Palace, a building first documented in the 10th century. It now houses the most important art collection in Girona province, with pieces dating from Romanesque times to the early 20th century. The building still conserves several spaces that bear witness to its original function, notably the Episcopal gaol and the superb garden, open to the public on several occasions throughout the year.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Girona Art Museum is a cultural delight. The diverse collection spans centuries, showcasing local and international art. The architecture and well-curated exhibits offer a captivating experience. While informative, a touch more interactivity could engage visitors.

Superb museum where you will find works of very high quality and from all periods. Medieval art is very well represented and highlighted. The welcome is smiling, it is free for children and there is a very well done route for them with a tablet to guide themselves and discover things! This museum is worth visiting!

How many capitals ( or capitell in Catalan, the decorative top portion of a pillar or column) or different interpretations of Madonna and child sculptures can you stomach at a time? This will more or less determine your experience of the Girona museum of art which encompasses the bulk of religious icons, panels, reliquary and items of a liturgical nature. After floor upon floor of these do you get a few vintage landscapes but nothing vaguely contemporary. On the occasion we visited, we were rewarded with two temporary exhibitions after all that tedious monotony : the surrealist political statements of Argentine artist Juan Batlle Planas and the dreamy portraits and landscapes of pioneering Polish artist Mela Muter. The Wifi also doesn't work in most of the halls but the one civilised element is the coffee lounge (housing a dispensing machine only) with comfy sofas and toilet facilities.

With your €10/€8 entrance fee you also get access to the Cathedral and Colegiata de Sant Feliu. As an extra bonus, the triple ticket lasts 48 hours so you don't need to do the lot in one visit. If you've just done a tour of the cathedral, there is a very welcome coffee lounge with soft settees and excellent toilets. You are asked to leave bags in a free locker at the entrance. Tip: take the lift to the 5th floor and walk your way down. Ask for the audio guide as we weren't offered one. Once in the courtyard there is excellent disabled access but we couldn't see how you would get up the initial 20 steps.

Full of great works of Cataluna. 40 minutes from Barcelona by Renfe. Souvenir shops is tiny. No catalogues of the artworks, but taking picture is allowed. The famous "Tapestry of Creation" is in the treasury room of the Cathedral. Common ticket of the Basilica-Cathedral-Museum is available on the official site of the Girona Cathedral.

We had a superb guide, she was enthusiastic erudition. There is so much to see and the n museum is well curated and laid out. The art is mostly religiously inspired but with strong Moorish influences in the early centuries.
The retables were themselves sensational. The Illustrated Book of the Apocalypse one of the finest examples of that art form that I have seen.
The have a 'whitewashed table', one of the only extant examples of the way in which medieval stained glass craftsmen traced designs on wood on which were then laid the pieces of glass. Astonishingly, this one was actual used to create the glass we saw in the cathedral.
The wall painting so fresh and well preserved.
And of course, the amazingly beautiful tapestry.

This museum is interesting because of its beautiful collection of Virgin with child. Quite easy and fast to visit, but with great emotions.

This was one of the five museums that are linked and well worth a visit (2 euro to get in but then you only pay 1 euro each for the other 4) The english descriptions of the art are a bit poor and could do with improving now that Ryanair are taking this destination seriously. The day I visited I was the ONLY visitor in the museum for the 2 hours I was there so it obviously needs some better promotion as does the great value ticket system. It also has one of the best rest areas/cafe, just machines but coffee for 40 cents and beer for 80 cents, comfy leather sofas plus some old promotional catalogues with great prints that you can take away for free. I have cut out and framed some lovely pictures I brought home!!!

We went to this art museum with my family of 4 which included 2 kids aged 10 and 8. Lovely staff there that gave our children an activity sheet that could win them a prize! They won a fridge magnet and a sticker sheet. Very good trip!

A nice way to spend a few hours. We paid for all 3 places, the cathedral, basilica and museum. Very reasonably priced.
