Top ways to experience Casa Vicens Gaudí
The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Gracia
Gracia literally stands out from the pack. It used to be an independent town until late into the 19th century. Though it’s just a short commute away from the centre, a visit here feels like you’re in a whole different city. The bohemian vibe has drawn many international artists to this area, resulting in a wide selection of galleries, live music and artsy boutique stores. The nightlife is centered around the vibrant Gracia’s plaças, where young and old gather to enjoy a drink outside. Carrer de Verdi, its main street, offers affordable restaurants and a movie theatre that screens new as well as classic films in their original language. However Gracia's greatest treasure lies just up the hill at Guell Park, where Antoni Gaudi's vibrant and revolutionary art sculptures stand atop unequaled views of Barcelona.

    Don’t miss it
Pay the little bit extra and take the guided tour - it’s well worth it. We had a guided tour in English and Soraya (apologies if I haven’t spelled this correctly) was our guide - she was superb! Coming from a fellow guide I appreciate the difference between good and excellent and she was excellent. Soraya’s English was superb, her knowledge of the family and the house was spot on and she was open to all questions without being hesitant and without bluffing. The history of Casa Vicens is fascinating and the story is so interesting. I love being able to make the comparison between the early Gaudi and the later Gaudi. Don’t skip this visit, it should be towards the top of your to do list. There’s a lovely little coffee shop in the garden and it’s easy to get to on the metro.
Dear visitor, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We are happy to know that the experience visiting Casa Vicens was so enriching and that you enjoyed the guided tour. We hope to welcome you again very soon. Best regards, Casa Vicens

    A hidden gem in Barcelona
We loved our visit to Casa Vicens - the first house that Gaudi designed. It was so beautiful and you really got a sense of Gaudi as a visionary. The house is a burst of color and pattern that exudes joy. We spent about a little over an hour there. It is also a great value compared to some of the other Gaudi homes you can tour. Overall I highly recommend Casa Vicens
Dear visitor, Thanks for sharing your feedback. We are delighted to know you had such a wonderful time at Casa Vicens discovering all the techniques Gaudi used in his first house and all the secrets he scattered throughout the house. We hope to welcome you again very soon. Best rgards, Casa Vicens,

Mother and son visit to Barcelona
It was quiet, out of the main centre, well organised and a beautiful house. The gardens were small but lovely. The staff were welcoming and friendly. We chose the photo package which was great fun. A lovely afternoon in a stunning location.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are happy to know that you had a wonderful and quiet time visiting Casa Vicens so you could discover all the secrets of Gaudi's first house. We hope to welcome you again very soon! Best regards, Casa Vicen.

    Fabulous home to visit
Out of all the Gaudi homes we visited I like this one the most. It was to cheerful and calm. It is so wonderful to be able to compare Gaudi’s style and his seemingly unlimited ideas, colors in each of his buildings designs. The tour was very informative and I found the staff to be help and answered questions we had. The models of the house and original size of the yard are so helpful to gain perspective. I highly recommend if you have any interest in Gaudi.
Dear Danette, Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We are happy to know that you found Casa Vicens to be worth a visit. We also appreciate your kind words about our staff, and we hoped they helped you discover all the wonders hid in Gaudi's first house. We hope to welcome you again any day soon! Best regards, Casa Vicens.

    A different Gaudi house
Another house by Gaudi. But this one is different because it is the first one he built. The architecture is more strict, the shapes not yet inspired by nature. But it is very colorful. And one can observe several themes that will come back in later works. A very interesting and pleasant visit. It is easy to imagine the life in this house, one century ago. Audioguide comments are very relevant. Buy your tickets on line.
Dear Quest, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are glad to know that you enjoyed the visit at Casa Vicens, and that the audioguide service helped you discover all the details in Gaudi's first work. We hope to welcome you again very soon! Best regards, Casa Vicens

Great view to the young Gaudi
I loved visiting Casa Vicens. I was last in Barcelona Nov 2017 and I knew nothing about it, maybe since it was just opening. I visited many of his other works and found this very interesting; as his beginning. I loved the marigold like flowers on the tile. And the "Alhambra" ceiling in the smoking room. Interesting that being built for a family with one child it was quite small before the addition. Also interesting realizing it was built for the society of its time, with separate but adjoining bedrooms for the couple. (Dividing wall taken down by subsequent owners) Also, of it's time that this is 'his/Manuel Vicens) house. No mention of Dolores Garalt as a joint owner only that she moved out when he died and later sold it. No mention by name of his adopted daughter or how the infant, who drowned in the fountain, was related, the baby does not carry Garalt or Vicens name. Would have loved to experience his original garden and lot. So different with tall apt buildings all around currently. The upstairs was rebuilt because it was demolished. It is a blank slate, only good for showing the informational video and architecture models. Nothing of the imagination there.
Dear Suzanne, Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience at Casa Vicens! It sounds like you had a great time and really appreciated the unique features of the house. We are sorry to hear that the upstairs area was not as imaginative as you had hoped, but we are glad that you were able to enjoy the informational video and architecture models. Thank you again for your thoughtful and insightful comments. We hope to welcome you again soon! Best regards, Casa Vicens.

    Colorful Peaceful Visit
My wife and I had a delightful 1 1/2 hour visit to Gaudi’s first house. We enjoyed the tranquil pace of our self guided tour. (Their app is amazing, and they provide free wifi so one can use his/her phone.) The house is very colorful, decorated throughout with tiles and plant motif wall paintings. We also appreciated learning more about Gaudi’s innovations including hexagonal doors to avoid losing space for corridors, and the easy connections between indoor/outdoor space. We had a very fun morning at Vincens’ country house.
Dear Sergio, Thank you for sharing your experience at Casa Vicens. We are glad to know you could enjoyed the tranquil pace of the self-guided tour and found the app to be helpful. Also, that you were able to have fun while learning more about Gaudi's work and innovations during your visit. We hope to welcome you again very soon!

    Amazing place!
Unforgettable experience at Vincens House. Good coffe, nice small garden (it is like a piece of heaven in the midlle of concrete). The same Palau Guell, Batlo House, Sagrada Familia, Champ Nou. And mandatory Palau de la Musica Catalana!!! The best! All these places in contrast to Mila House!
Dear Gabriel, Thanks for sharing your review with us. We are happy to hear that you had such an amazing experience with us, and that you were able to discover all the different styles that merge in Gaudi's first masterpiece. Best regards, Casa Vicens

It's a charming house and not so touristic as casa Batllo o casa Millà.
A mediterannean and colourful house. Charming house, not so famous as la casa Batlló or others, but very interesting. We loved it. We recommend it 100 per cent. The neighbourhood is nice place and the house is not so touristic as others, which is a big advantage. We spent a wonderful morning there with the kids.

    GAUDI'S FIRST HOUSE COMMISSION
I visited all 7 Gaudi UNESCO sites in Barcelona, and this was right up there with Casa Batllo. It was Gaudi's first house commission and I wish I had seen it first. You see the seedings of so much of his later work in this home. While not all of it is successful (he experimented with paper maiche which I didn't care for), it is very fun to see. It is also high up in the hills in another part of Barcelona, and an interesting walk back down the hill.
Dear Visitor, Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We're glad to hear that you enjoyed visiting the Gaudi UNESCO sites in Barcelona, particularly Casa Vicens. It's fascinating to see the evolution of Gaudi's work over time and how his early designs influenced his later creations. We appreciate your feedback and hope that you had a memorable time exploring the city. Best regrards, Casa Vicens.

This was interesting - I would recommend it, but it was quite expensive (18€) for such a short visit. There’s a big difference between this and some of Gaudí’s later houses, so it’s worth seeing both.

Really beautiful house, I can only recommend visiting! I have visited it using the audio guide and was astonished by the vision of the architect.
PS: the guide is online and you need to run it using your mobile device, so think about a headset for more comfort and enough battery charge.

Great guide and a fascinating place. An example of the development of the genius of Gaudi and sadly of the encroachment of the city on his vision.

The house is very nice and unique with a mixture of a lot of architectural styles as Gaudi got his inspiration from different places. The english speaking guide (Xavier) was so interesting, I really enjoyed what he explained to us and the way he spoke, he has charisma and makes you want to listen to him ! I 100% recommend the guided tour.

I went on the English tour at 9.30am on Saturday 3rd February and had the amazing Patricia A give the guided tour. It was only myself and one other tourist on the tour and it was absolutely incredible. Patricia was extremely knowledgable about the house, and able to share things and answer questions that made the experience very enjoyable. She was so friendly and very approachable that it was easy to ask questions and it felt very conversational as we made our way around the house. The house itself was beautiful - it was so interesting to see where Gaudi started, with his first major project, and how his influences differed so much from the style we come to recognise today. That being said, it was brilliant to be able to see the beginnings of his distinctive style come through in the details in this house. If you are looking for something to do in Barcelona, I highly recommend you visit Casa Vicens. If you are thinking of going, I highly recommend that you book onto a guided tour. You might even be lucky enough to have Patricia guide you through the house. Thank you for such a wonderful visit!

Visiting the building was very good and impressive for me and my wife although its price was quite expensive. However, the reaction from an officer (man) was so unpolite and unkind to us. He came to our floor from the outside of the building when he saw and was alleging/claiming (in Spanish) that we opened the door of the balcony in order to take photo which was not our aim as the door was open when we entered the room. It was really a bad and rude reaction from that officer and wonder if somebody can warn this guy from the building management!!!

I couldn’t help thinking that Frank Lloyd Wright must have been influenced by Gaudi’s work. Bringing the outdoors in and all that. So far this is my favorite of all of Gaudi’s projects. Staff was extremely helpful.
