The fountains are a spectacular attraction and definitely worth the visit due to their design and spectacle. Of course they are also close to Plaça d'Espanya, the Museu d'Art and the shopping Mall that was once the bull ring. The main fountains work almost all the time, but the shows are timed and obviously only illuminated in darkness. When I... More

An incredibly beautiful show of lights! The fountain is placed between Placa Espanya and Palau Nacional (Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya).

This is an artificial attraction, seemingly made just to attract tourists. The fountain has shows (check schedules, which change seasonally) that are programmed water streams lit in various changing colors. A crowd collects, but this is not a must-see. You might get some oohs and aahs from the kids but it seems like a feeding grounds for pickpockets more than... More

This is an amazing sight. The show begins just before dark and runs for about 2 hours. Once the fountains start up, the light show begins all while music is playing. The colors are terrific and the show is easy to watch for the entire show. The only difficult part is that you have to sit on stone steps which... More

Goes on for a very long time so up to you when you get there and how long you stay. It can get a bit monotonous after an hour or so.

Bus guide points out many interesting places you may want to visit later as you drive to fountain. Make sure to use escalators to get from parking lot to fountain

The fountains come alive at 9.00pm and open up with Queen singing Barcelona. It certainly has the wow factor. You are better getting there half an hour before they start to get a good position to see. The atmosphere is fantastic there's such a cheer when the fountains start. Stunning a must to go and see.

Staying in Montjuic

Neighbourhood Profile
Montjuic
Beyond the four columns standing guard at the Plaça Espanya, beyond even the extravagant and colourful fountains guiding your way up the boulevard, stands the impressive and towering structure of the Palau Nacional, the national museum. At this very spot in front of the cascades of the central fountain, Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe gave the performance of their lifetimes to welcome the 1992 Olympic Games to this magnificent city. And true to its anticipation, the games transformed the city, reimagining the mountain of Montjuic with the development of an arena, stadium, and many other sporting facilities that are open to visitors year-round. Surrounding the adjacent side of the plaza are well-established hotels catering to business guests and a shopping mall transformed out of a historic bullfighting arena.
