    Not your ordinary Fountain
My partner was very skeptical that I had scheduled time in our itinerary for a "Magic Fountain," let alone the fact that I had us arrive over an hour before the show began to get a "good seat." We actually arrived several hours before the show and wandered the MNAC area at sunset, gorgeous views! Then we found a great seat and enjoyed chatting and watching the area fill as the show neared. This is not your ordinary fountain, the lights and music truly make it a unique and free experience. If you are in Barcelona when the Fountain is active, take a few hours to slow down and enjoy this fountain!

A really fun evening in Barcelona!
We rode Metro Line 1 to Placa de Espanya. What a busy place in evening traffic! We walked to the Font Magica de Montjuic and having arrived early, found seats directly in front of the fountain. A group of young men put on a dance show as we waited and passed their hats for donations. Gradually the fountain began to send up sprays of water and the lights came on as a delightful show set to music – rock for the first part and classical for the second part – began. It was fun to watch the changing patterns of water, light, and music, and we enjoyed being out among families and tourists alike on a beautiful autumn night. We left before the show ended, hoping to beat the crowds on the Metro, and enjoyed strolling along the fountain-lined avenue leading back to Placa de Espanya and seeing the lighted Arenas de Barcelona, which once served as a bullfighting arena but is now filled with shops and restaurants.

Got to be the best free show in town
It’s an amazing display from the fountain and the various water features surrounding but it does get very crowded and had been made aware of that from reading various reviews. Because of the crowds we elected to sit outside the National Museum of Art of Catalonia looking down onto the main fountain and some of the other water features. The two main disadvantages were that the music to go with the show can only be heard nearer to the main fountain and we were bombarded with street sellers selling mainly bottles of water and soft drinks yet just behind us was a kiosk selling what the street sellers were selling plus other things. I can only assume that these street sellers are illegal and instead of enjoying the show was being constantly harassed by these sellers with no evidence of anyone policing them. We did see the first part of the show again the following night near the fountain where we could hear all the music clearly but was very crowded the other downfall is that we couldn’t see the display as well as we did on the previous night.

This fountain and the ones around it were truly magical when they had water in them. But sadly, due to an extended drought and necessary water restrictions, the fountains were empty for our visit. So just empty concrete basins. They will be back someday.

This foundation is still off and not operating because of drought issues. It looked like it would of been nice to see it in working order with lights too.Maybe next time. The foundation was built in 1929 and is in a great location and stunning views around. To visit get the metro nearby to the espanya line then some walking.

At time of writing 9th September, there is a water shortage so no water features at all are in use in Barcelona. Waited for an hour and a half before leaving!! Hopefully this stops anybody else from a wasted journey.

We visited on a Thursday as trip advisor said it was on and to our disappointment it did show. It doesn’t look like it has been on for weeks.

Barcelona is a lovely city. Easy to get around by bus and on foot. I felt very safe. Lots of interesting things to see.

The Magic Fountain did not operate when we were there in June. Anyway, the surrounding was nice and spacious.

A nice spot, but dissapointed that the fountain display was not operating when travelling especially to it.This I believe is due to drought conditions at the current times. Not sure if this is stated as many more eole had come to watch the display when we did.

The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc is currently not working due to drought. We visited to see the water and light show but it wasn’t working so instead we climbed up the steps and watched the sunset over the spectacular views. It was very romantic! Drinks and a picnic is recommended to make the most of your experience.

We were hoping to see the magic fountain display on Wed 7 June 2023, we got there early to get a great spot, as did others, but sadly the fountain display didn't happen. A big disappointment as it was going to be the grand finale to our trip.
I do appreciate the drought situation in the area and noticed other fountains around Barcelona were dry, and accept that is necessary to conserve water but as there was water in this fountain I was expecting something to happen. Oh well, a good reason to come back another time to see it.
