Very close to the Gothic area and the "Old city" (Ciutat Vella), the Born is indeed a part of the old Barcelona. You just have to walk around admiring the streets, the buildings, the atmosphere... Two places deserve special attention: Picasso museum and, of course,...More

The el born area is a great place to explore with plenty of cafes and shops to peruse through. Very close to the Gothic area and can be done during the same time.

I love these side streets and areas of Barcelona! If you love walking around and getting lost in a safe place, this is the place to be. Just great food, drinks, and coffee shops galore! Each turn you make, you'll discover something new. Some streets...More

The whole area is appealing. We particularly enjoyed a visit to the old food market, which is now dedicated to showing off archealogical remains. There are several very good explanatory panels telling the area`s history.

Even if is less monumental than the Gothic, the Born is our favorite quartier in Barcelona, is more charm especially when the sunset comes. It is fantastic to walk in the medieval streets and more on the top side of the quartier which is sometimes...More

Another look in the city, a great place to wander around looking at the architecture and stopping anywhere for tapas and a caña (draught beer), clarita (beer with lemonade) or even sangria. Small streets, some places to shop and lots of things to see, including...More

Walked through here to get to the Picasso Museum. Absolutely charming. Stopped at a fabulous restaurant for tapas and sangria and then a few hours of wandering and shopping. Definitely plan on a return visit and more exploring.

The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent
the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But
this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually
enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few
places that live and breathe such exciting energy
regardless of the time of day. This neighbourhood
seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the
city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants

Mercer House in El Born. Transportation to and from the airport in Barcelona is cheap and easy. You can take the airport bus into the city for $6.

We stayed at Inside Barcelona Apartments Mercat, which is smack bang in the middle of El Born, overlooking the old market. Perfect location and a really awesome apartment!

Can't remember now but check out Rick Steves travel book on Barcelona. We did the walks he laid out and they were terrific. He suggested restaurants along the way and the different sites we passed.
