About
The Basilica of the Sagrada Familia is a monumental church devoted to the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Construction began in 1882, based on plans drawn up by the architect Francisco de Paula del Villar, and Antoni Gaudi was commissioned to continue the project in 1883. The Temple has always been an expiatory church, built only from donations. As Gaudi said: "The Expiatory Church of the Sagrada Familia is made by the people and is mirrored in them. It is a work that is in the hands of God and the will of the people." In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the site as a minor basilica

Neighbourhood: Eixample
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognisable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognised architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.

Magical light from the windows inside the church
Interesting architecture and ideas behind it, we thought it was def worth to pay the ticket to enter the church. First impression when we stepped inside was "breathtakingly huge and impressive". You can download their La Sagrada Familia app to listen to a guided audio tour with your own headset, very clever and just enough information that you can take it all in before it gets too much or boring. I was surprised to learn that the building of the church actually started in the 1800's.

Stunning
Sep 2021
We went there 9:30 and stayed 3 hours there. It is stunning and we enjoyed every minute there. The light inside changes when the sun moves. The museum underground is also worth visiting if you appreciate Gaudi's work. I recommend to go in the morning and staying at least a couple of hours to see the light change through the window also.

Stunning Cathedral
Oct 2021
The cathedral is absolutely beautiful with the most amazing stained glass windows. The sheer scale of the cathedral is breathtaking. An absolute must see in Barcelona.

Incredible!

Not to be missed if you are visiting Barcelona. Just make sure to get tickets in advance, as they do sell out especially during the busy tourist months.

impressive Gaudi
Oct 2021
Even if it’s not ended it’s absolutely impressive, I would strongly recommend to get there early in the morning because it’s really crowded

Nice cathedral but not worth visiting the inside
Oct 2021 • Couples
Its an interesting building and beautiful inside. Its full of towers, balconies and cellars/ crypts. Unfortunately you can't visit any of them.. for €26 you just get to walk around the main ground floor area which takes about 15 minutes if you are a slow walker.
Best viewed from the outside. I understand its a place of worship but if it wants to charge so much to enter they Should allow access to towers, crypts and balconies.

greatest Art masterpiece
Nov 2020
This church is the greatest masterpiece of the famous architect Gaudi. This church is very different from all the churches you have ever seen. While it is beautiful, it is very strange and different. One of the most important places in Barcelona when visiting is a must see here. It is better to get a ticket online beforehand as you may not be able to buy a ticket to visit the same day. Of course, there is a ticket office next to the entrance.

Not a regular basilica, more like an architectural phenomenon.

I can't wait to go back in 10 years, to see the finished work. The place is colorful and huge. No place other than Disney World could compare to its uniqueness. Worth every penny!
