The Museu Picasso in Barcelona is a key reference for understanding the formative years of Pablo Picasso. The genius of the young artist is revealed through the 4,251 works that make up the permanent collection. Furthermore, the Museu Picasso, opened in 1963, also reveals his deep relationship with Barcelona: an intimate, solid relationship that was shaped in his adolescence and youth, and continued until his death.

The Museum is very rich in regard to work from the formative years in the life of the artist; it is practically exhaustive up to the Blue Period. The Museum also houses an important representation of works from 1917, and the series Las Meninas (1957) as well as a comprehensive print collection.

This is a great museum in the heart of Barcelona. Wonderful collection of his early work and is so interesting to see the progression of his style as you make your way through the collection. Definitely buy your tickets online ahead of time. Got ours the night before and we avoided a crazy long line at 11:30am. The audio tour... More

We spent about an hour and a half or so at the Museo Picasso. The entry fee is pretty minimal ($12 or so per person). If you wish to store items, there are storage lockers that you can rent, and you can rent headsets for a narrated tour. We chose just to wander throughout the museum, which is comprised of... More

I purchased my tickets on line the day before I visited and was able to show them on my tablet when I arrived. I would suggest renting an audio guide, as it explains a lot of the paintings. The rental can also be done online. You buy tickets for a time slot and are only permitted to enter 10 minutes... More

Amazing museum with lots of incredible pieces from Picasso. Really well laid out, good variety of pieces over the course of his life. Free on Sundays and pre buy tickets even for the free day. Go online in advance to book a particular time slot. The earlier in the day, the better the crowds.

Queues for this museum were very long and in mid afternoon heat not good for me. So instead of museum visit went for tapas instead.

We enjoyed our visit gretaly and the audio guide was excellent. it is a big exhibition though and maybe not enough seats around. also the drivers for Picasso's move from relatively conventional to cubist and even more adventurous styles was not really explained - or we missed it.

Nice collection of Picasso works. Plan on spending a couple hours. It's not too big and overwhelming. I would recommend getting tickets ahead of time. We were there in the late morning during the morning in May and had to wait about 30 minutes to get in.

Staying in El Born / La Ribera

Neighbourhood Profile
El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighbourhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.
