I really enjoy visiting walled cities, such as Segovia's. I love the old architecture and appeal of seeing where people lived 1000+ years ago.

Segovia offers a beautiful, very well maintained medieval town along with top traditional cuisine. Underrated compared to other historical towns near Madrid --like Toledo-- Segovia is worth every minute of the short trip from Madrid (about 55 miles).

Not far from Madrid, but stay over if you can. Very easy to walk the whole town, from the Aquaduct to the Alcazar. Check out the tiles on the walls - they are all different.

This was a great place to explore. We walked the streets and enjoyed tapas in a few of the bars. Try walking the whole area, it always seem to come up with new perspectives and surprise views. I highly recommend it.
