About
Fortress of the Kings of Castile and Royal School of Artillery Its picture has been around the world: a unique fairy tale-like palace that brings together architectural tastes of different monarchs. It tells -to all those who come to know it- ancient palatial stories. Austere, as they were the Castilian kings, raised on the rock at the confluence of the valleys of the rivers Eresma and Clamores, the Alcazar seems to watch over the city. Its beautiful Tower keep, often compared to the bow of a boat sailing between the two rivers, is of a stunning beauty. Tourists are amazed to realize that the fortress is a living part of this Castilian city, chosen as a place of residence for many of the monarchs of the Trastamara dynasty.

Great Experience
Jul 2021
The castle is very interesting to walk through. They have plaques in English so you can understand what you are looking at. We did the self guided tour. The tower is a must as you can see pretty much the entire city from the top and it is beautiful. If mobility is an issue, the tower is not for you as you have to go up several flights in a spiral stair case.

Worthwhile visit
Jun 2021
We walked up to the castle and bought our tickets there, two tickets inclusive of tower tickets for the kids (reduced price for students), and two just for the castle. There were lots to see, especially displays of armor and cannons. There were also stunning views of the surrounding area from the rooms in the castle and from the turrets. There was also a museum for the artillery academy that was once housed within the fortress. Overall, it was a worthwhile visit.

One of the most beautiful castles in Spain
Jul 2020
The picturesque castle situated on the rocky hill makes a huge impression. Magnificent castle , surrounded by gardens and unbeatable views. Its shape resembles the bow of a ship . The Alcazar, one of the most iconic castles in Spain, was built in the 12th century. It was originally intended to function as a fortress, but functioned as a royal palace, state prison, and military academy. The castle can be visited independently or with a guide. It's worth going inside. The visit is highly recommended. Definitely worth the price especially the view from the castle tower.

Stunning

Very beautiful castle that is a must see. We bought tickets online with a time slot. Make sure you also get a ticket to go up to the top as the view over the city is great. Because of covid both the entrance and the visit to the top had a timeslot, they were spread out a bit far in my opinion but there was some benches to wait.

A must visit
May 2021
Definitely worth it to explore a bit around this alcazar. It looks like a palace out of a fairytale and is in great condition. Some rooms are set up with artifacts like cannons, flags and armor. Be sure to admire the beautiful, intricate ceilings.
Teachers and students get a discount and I believe we paid less than €7 each and we paid extra to go up to the tower to get a nice view of Toledo.

Fairy-tale palace
Nov 2019
This was the highlight of our visit to Segovia. We arrived early, so did not have to contend with any lines. The audio guide was very helpful. This fairy-tale palace has a lot of sights to offer!

A must see
Aug 2020
Lovely castle that inspired Disney for his Cinderella castle. Cheap entrance fee. More if you want to climb the tower but that is time allocated and we did not have the time. Lovely cafe /bar with great views

Easily accessible from Madrid
Nov 2019 • Solo
So I ended up here out of spontaneity. I hadn’t planned the trip. Easily accessible by the RENFE service from Chamartín. Once you arrive, you need to take a short bus ride into the old town (The Aqueduct of Segovia). Also make sure you have some loose change for the bus! I highly recommend to go to the tourist information (within the square, by the aqueduct). You can get a free map with all the main landmarks, which also has The Alcázar of Segovia on it. Upon arrival you need to buy a ticket to enter and if you want to enter the Tower of Juan. You can also get nice panoramic views from the tower. Segovia is definitely very beautiful and very picturesque. I would definitely visit again!
