We visited in our Motorhome which meant we baulked at getting to the Miradir where we had intended to spend the night. Quite an easy drive from Ponferrada and having arrived at the village of Las Medulas we were so grateful it was October & not August. There was room in the free carpark & we were informed at TI... Las Medulas (I think this can be roughy translated as "the ridges") is unique even for this unique country of Spain. It is a place of almost unearthly natural beauty (lush greenery and bright orange rocks), but also a place of great significance from both historic and environmental standpoints. It is an impressive (may be, the most impressive) monument to... More

We vistited the site full of expectations but where greatly decieved. We could not find any map when walking in so we walked in. Indeed the walk is nice, between the chesnut trees, but we dod not come for a walk. At some point indeed two caves but now way to find the circular road which one should be able... More

Note the viewing gallery to inside the mine tunnel is closed during the day between 2-4pm so we missed out on that but you can get views of the Roman mines any time and the views are spectacular, highly recommended!

Las Medulas are a must see in the north of Spain. The hike to the top of the mountains is extremely tough and I would not recommend it to families with small children or to elders. Nonetheless, the Medulas can be also explored from the ground, which I would recommend tl everyone. The view is stunning and a visit to... More

Great place to visit if you are close to Ponferrada. Short drive from the town with well marked signs. We parked in a tiny hamlet called Las Medulas. We found a parking area next to a house / bar and a souvenir shop.. We made our way after being given some advice on the route towards Las Medulas, a Roman... More

This reminds me of Uluru in Australia because of the age and the colour of the rocks sticking out above the trees and dominating the landscape. We drove to the view point at Orellan very high and very narrow especially going through villages with overhanging houses praying nothing would be coming the other way! It was worth it though and... We drove our rental car 120 km east from Lugo arriving in this rural area of limestone, slate, and coal mines. We followed the nicely paved signposted road to the small village, Las Medulas, located in the heart of the decimated mountain. With few photo opportunities and reading the parking lot information, we decided to drive up to the Mirador... More

This area is close to Ponferreda city and you should really take a whole day to explore the area. We were there for the sunset and that was amazing, the colors changing with descending sun.

It is awesome to see how Roman mining with water did this to the landscape. The place is different and beautiful. You can walk in it and go up the hill to a balcony with great views.
