The smaller castle across the river is very nice and had to be strategically very important to protecting the city. The tour operator said it guarded one of the two ways into the city. Very cool.

We only were able to see this from a distance as we drove around Toledo. We took a picture from the Alcantara Bridge as it looked amazing. Would have loved to visited. Next time.

If the architecture of this Templar Monastery/fortress on the Tagus seems familiar, it is because it is prominently portrayed in El Greco's masterpiece "Skyline of Toledo" No entry, now a hostel.

The place serves as a youth hostel and visitors are not allowed. However, you can take some good pics from outside. If you are close to the Alcántara Bridge and have some time give it a try.
