Great place to mooch around for a while, then have a drink and snack at one of the tapas bars surrounding the market

A very very good market that sells all the food you need
Aug 2020
Okay people- this is important! I know that there are many of you out there who enjoy cooking your own food when on holiday, always go self-catering and are what gets referred to as "foodies". This market is for you!!! Some guide books (eg Lonely Planet) sometimes think everything is a tourist destination and expect you to eat out the whole time
The market is not terribly big, but it has everything that you need for a superb nosh-up at home. It's also where almost all locals shop (the really big supermarkets tend to have much smaller meat and fish counters than they would in France or Italy) and this market also supplies many local restaurants. Meat, cheese, fruit and veg, flowers, eggs etc are all upstairs (on the ground floor) and the fish is in the basement. The free(!) car park is also in the basement but is quite small and tricky to get into- there is a very large (and not very expensive) car-park opposite the main entrance that services the museum and art gallery.
Everything is very reasonably priced, amazing fresh quality and most stalls accept cards as well as cash. There are small tapas-style fish cafes downstairs in the fish market where you can eat the prawns straight off the stall- very popular with local people mid-way through their shopping trip.
There is also a decent supermarket in the basement too which clearly isn't allowed to sell anything is available in the market, and so doesn't have fresh meat, fish, veg etc, but it has everything else.
There are also many small cafes around the outside of the market (at the other end of the main entrance). Never been to any, but they look decent and simple for a snack and a beer.
English is not widely spoken but everyone is used to non-Spanish speakers and it's not hard to communicate (I discovered a waitress in the downstairs fish cafe speaks very good English and helped with general understanding.
The market is CLOSED on Mondays, but open on the other 6 days.
NB- if you park in the basement car-park, keep your receipts from the market! I think there's a system whereby there's a minimum spend to get free parking and I was charged about 2 Euros to get out!

Fantastic Fish Market!
Nov 2019
We went on a day trip to Santa Cruz and came across this fantastic market, but we especially loved the downstairs fish market. What an abundance of fresh fish and seafood and most of the stalls had small eating areas where everything was cooked to order. We ordered several small dishes and it was definitely the best seafood we have EVER had and it was all enjoyed with a couple of glasses of lovely chilled wine. There was a great atmosphere and I would eat there every day if I could.

Impressive entrance
Feb 2020
Unfortunately, when we got to the market it was closed but the entrance arch is impressive as are the sculptures outside.
A place to revisit when we are next in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Best sea food
Mar 2020 • Couples
Food was unbelievable, so fresh, tasty as it gets! You shouldn't leave San Juan without having a bite here. It was a little pricey in my opinion, here it costed us most to eat and it wasn't even a proper restaurant setting, so that can be a deal breaker.

BIG diasapoint

Arrived there 11:00 Monday morning. Nice looking building.
Where were all the exotic spices? Two shops on upper level selling herbs.
Where were the fish stalls with species from the area? Wandered round both levels found some, all closed.
There were a few butchers, the odd cheese shop, some bakers, one fruit and veg shop and a stall selling plants and flowers. Two spots with food to eat there and some stalls with jewellery.
All told it was a big yawn.
If this is where the locals come to buy their food I can only assume the get it from the Dino supermarket in the basement.
Not worth the time and effort.

Very nice and traditional market. You can feel the reel climate of Canarias and Africa. You can also buy a lot of traditional sweets, bread and very fresh and tasty fruits and vegetables

A wonderful surprise
Feb 2020
Not only does this market have the usual fruits veg and fresh meats, but it has amazing seafood bars in the lower level as well just outside the back of the market. Lots of cool people chilling. Other street food and pastries too! Plus childcare.

Local culture ...
Jan 2020
A commercial market for the locals, it’s packed with raw food and general good stalls. There are several Lebanese food stalls too, selling sweet meats and bread. It’s very busy but provides a great insight into local shopping.
