Main square of Vegueta

The lovely square sits in front of the cathedral of Santa Ana. It is surrounded by impressive old buildings in classical Spanish colonial style and is well worth a visit.

The plaza is very animated with a lot of bars and restaurants and numerous retirees playing dominos. Very easy access by bus and cars.

The Plaza is probably not somewhere you would visit on its own, but as part of a walking tout of Vegueta - the old town. It is a rectangular plaza with the Cathedral at one end and the town hall at the other end. Along the sides are many beautiful buildings, including the Bishop's residence near the Cathedral with a... A great place to visit, has sun all the year around - lovely people and great location. Short stops are not the best option, as you would need a couple of weeks to explore the initial stops.

Well, there is no choice if you visit Las Palmas and go around walking on the older part of the town, Vegueta, which for me us a must for a few hours. Cathedral, Santo Domingo are must see churches on the area, together with the local markets where you can taste amazing local food as well on the numerous restaurants... More

Lovely little square in front of the Cathedral. Good place to sit and take the whole area in. Plenty of seats around. The history abounds if you gaze around. Lots of people seem to congregate here. Would not describe it as amazing but certainly worth a wander to if you are in the area.

The plaza is a rectangle and they have placed some benches there, which is very nice so you can sit down and look around. Right in the front is Catedral Santa Ana and there are also other interesting buildings around the place. Children often climb the dog statues at the entrance of the place. Very nice to sit and look... More

We took the walking tour provided by the red tourist bus company (also recommended) and it ended here. It was very interesting to hear about the city and island`s history, and to learn why there are dog statues at the edge of the square (The islands are probably named after the Latin word for "dog").

This is the high point of a wonder around the old town of las palmas. The historic square is intact on all sides and is an interesting place to take pictures of the cathedral.
