Today, we decided to take a trip to "Pico de Las Nieves". Gran Canaria's highest point, 1956 meters above sea level. We started in Puerto de Mogan on the south side. Google maps suggested two options and we chose the shortest route. My suggestion is...More

Whoever has been on Teide (the mountain on neighbouring Tenerife) is disappointed by this "peak". I took a walk from Cruz Grande - relatively nice 700 m to ascend however as the hunting season had started there were dogs barking and with the rifle sounds...More

We parked at the cafe, enjoyed coffee and cake taking in the panoramic views. Walked the last stretch to the top and took in the majestic scenery around us and the volcano crater below us.

Driving up the winding roads, overseeing the valleys and being rewarded by the fantastic views and a taste of life away from the noise of 21st century life. Fab. All enhanced by the smell of fresh pine. Don't miss it!

We booked a scooter (better choice than with a car) and we drove for 2 hours till we reached the top. It was really nice. The road was great with lots of curves but with nice views.

Visiting Gran Canaria many people suggested us to see the sunset from Pico the las Nieves. The road to get there was not the easiest, and it took us at least one hour and a half to get there from the coast (there's no road...More

Amazing drive up to pico de las nieves and there were even cyclists heading to the top. Being January it was changeable weather. On the way up we had beautiful sunshine, monsoon, wind. At the top we didn't get the incredible views but it was...More

Drove here in a hire car from Puerto Rico, took about 1hr 20 minutes one way. Once you get off the main GC highway the roads are narrow and very windy. The drive starts to get steep towards the top but we had a 1.4...More

What a road trip. Stunning views from over 6000 feet up! Would strongly recommend hiring a car so that you have freedom to do what you want.

Questions & Answers

We read that Pico De las Nieves was easy to get to from Maspolomas without having to spend out on a excursion or taxi. We don't drive and rely on bus routes. We read that a line 18 bus to Aycata then a simple 16 minute walk from Aycata would get us there but now we are in gran Canaria we are being told that it is almost impossible to do it this way and that from Aycata it would take a few hours to get there and not advised to try go there. This was going to be the highlight of our holiday and now it looks like we can't get there. We are in gran Canaria right now and was hoping if someone could tell us if the hotel and holiday reps could be wrong and maybe not clued up to the bus and walk routes? Can we get there easily and easily get back to and from Maspolomas using the line 18 bus and is it a short walk from Aycata? We don't drive and don't want to spend over 50 euros on a coach excursion or huge taxi fares to get there as we are a young couple on a tight budget. I need some time there as a keen photographer. Please can anyone help out here? Is it easy to get to or not using a line 18 bus? We found a website called Rome for u and it states it would be cheap as chips on a line 18 bus then a 16 minute walk??? I am confused?? Really need some help as leaving gran Canaria on Friday so pushed for time. Really want to go here. it was this place that drew us to the Island. :(
