This museum rivals any of the other great fine art museums in the world (Met in NY, Louvre, Chicago, Prado, etc) but is virtually unknown. It is full of old an new world masters, most of whom are Basque sothey are not well known. There are impressionists you have never heard of but which are the equals of Monet, Van... More

Yes we loved the Guggenheim but for sheer quality & quantity of art, then you need to visit this museum. The amount of wonderful art means that a few hours spent appreciating this varied collection will make a trip well worthwhile. For us it was one of the highlights of our visit to Bilbao.

This is the older of Bilbao's two art museums (there are also good smaller history and archaeological museums in the old town) - a sound survey of the history of art. A very interesting collection

Being in Bilbao again was fun and my wife and I decided to visit the Fine Arts Museum rather than sample the delights of the art of Yoko Ono at the Guggenheim...just as well as the exhibition was apparently not yet ready and the entire third floor was closed! This "alternative" museum is well laid out, with great viewing opportunities... More

Here you will find a very fine collection of art. If you like the old masters , modern pieces of art, or treasures from the far east. This is the perfect place to visit. The building itself is an architectural beauty and there is a cafe if you are hungry, thirst, or just need a rest.

The works of the sculptor Eduardo Chillida are marvelous ! Mostly the works in the new wings; in the 'old' building the paintings are mostly "middle of the road".

We are probably not the only ones to find the collection here more engaging than the permanent collection (the only part open during our visit) at the Guggenheim. There were many artists completely new to us, their works well worth seeing. The paintings are displayed well, and the collection, while substantial, is not so large as to overwhelm and exhaust.... Museum is a great marriage of modern and traditional architchture with a fine collection of art. It also sits within a wonderfully beautiful park - a true urban oasis frequented by by local families.

Everyone goes to Bilbao for the Guggenheim (as did we) but make sure to get the discount ticket for both and do not miss the wonderful classical collection at Museo de Bellas Artes. Leave a whole day for it because it is worth seeing the entire collection. Wonderful artworks displayed beautifully. We love art from across the centuries and styles,... More
