Beyond the Iberian peninsula most people are rather uncomfortable about bullfighting, which makes a visit to this venerable bullring with attached museums all the more fascinating – not least for those who would never consider attending a bullfight. An inspection of the ring, and the backstage facilities that sustain it (the Plaza, of necessity, has its own ER) is a good counterpoint to a browse around a museum which is full of artwork and costumes celebrating the skill of the matador together with the mounted heads of their animal nemeses. Go with an open mind and you’ll leave with a much better understanding of bullfighting’s place in the life and culture of Andalucía.

Bullfights in Spain generally only take place on Sunday afternoons, and in May when we went they were not even holding regular bullfights, just lower-key events for new aspirants. But the Plaza de Toros is open most days for tours, so we decided to go...More

I will say I do not agree so much with bullfighting, I would not personally pay to go see one actually take place, but the history here is quite interesting to here. The property is beautiful, as is the arena and the history of bull...More

We toured the arena with a group tour and it was amazing. A must see. We had the entire arena to ourselves. The history is fantastic too.

I think the matador's suit of lights is the most beautiful costume ever devised, and the museum that;s adjacent to Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza has many to dazzle the eye, along with corrida-related paintings and etchings by Velasquez and Goya, sculptures and many...More

45 minutes tour, a couple of museums, were ok, but stepping out into the bull ring made it for me. You can see where the buls from the night before took lumps of wood out and imagine what it must be like. The guide was...More

This still has bullfights, nice museum. Not a fan of bullfights, but it is part of the culture, and i would never judge. Wonderful history, i think it is important to see the history, and respect it.

There is no doubt this is an important place in this city's history and even in the current day. However, it seems a cruel place to me and we did not pay the €8 entry fee to get the tour. We came across it as...More

The guided tour lady is really knowledgeable. There's something calming about her voice too :) personally not fond of 'toros' however she kept it interesting, answered questions, we really enjoyed it. Great instagram location.

We weren't expecting much from the tour after reading the reviews on here but we really enjoyed it! You don't get heaps of info but given we knew absolutely nothing about the history of bull fighting, the amount of info we did get was perfect...More

When we were walking by the river in the afternoon opposite de la Maestranza there was quite a queue so we decided to visit earlier the next day and there was no waiting to get in for the tour.
