Fascinating museum - don't miss the maqueta!
Nov 2019
There is some terrific art in this museum, and there is always an interesting temporary exhibition, but the highlight is the maquette on the top floor which is the base for a sound and light show telling the history of Malaga. And it is free!

One of my favourite Museums!
Oct 2019
This Museum is near the harbour and very easy to access by bus.

Here is a tip! Buy a 10 journey bus ticket for under €9 approx , the public bus service is fantastic!I

I was very pleased with my visit. I love art and found a fabulous 20th Century collection of Posters from the first half of the 20th Century. There was a lovely little area with computers which seemed to be for children as it had some monitors you could touch and models. Me being a big kid tried them out!! Its not a huge museum and would take less than an hour to go through. It has a lift. The price is free!!!! for European Passport holders and only €1.50 for others. Its not far from the Pompidou Centre. The staff there were really friendly and helpful. I even got a nice small guide for €3 "Breve Guia" in Spanish. There are lovely places to walk nearby and plenty of places to eat for all budgets.

Small museum near the Alcazaba tunnel
Feb 2019 • Solo
The Museo del Patrimonio municipal (MUPAM).

A modern Le Corbusier –style building houses this museum with a small but interesting collection and occasional temporary exhibition (embroidery when I visited - more interesting than it sounds!). Permanent exhibitions are of the history of Malaga - paintings, models, maps, photos etc - on the first floor, 19c paintings on the second and 20C paintings and posters on the third. There is a small shop and coffee bar on the mezzanine floor.

All well worth a visit. A short visit will be OK for most people and its free.

The history side is informative but relatively to the point and the art works are interesting. Note the 19c painting El Alegato - is the defendant being prepared for garotting? And a couple of the 20C ones would be at home in any much grander collection.

Another surprising museum
Sep 2018 • Solo
The municipal museum is free and it's an interesting visit. The permanent exhibition has some very interesting historical artifacts of the city plus some nice paintings. There are also some very interesting temporary exhibitions so it's overall a place worth of your time.

Good Exhibition of The Way They Used to Dress in Malaga
Feb 2018 • Couples
The exhibition showed how men and women dressed in Malaga in the 19th century. One can see the clothes that were popular at that time. This is a very interesting exhibition and is quite enjoyable.

Malaga once a Moor centre of knowledge
Aug 2017 • Couples
This city museum is rather tucked out of the way, and you might not realize it’s even there unless you read about it, or happen to walk right past the front door. It’s a shame it doesn't attract more attention — it has a lot to say about the artistic and cultural history of the city. The current (temporary?) exhibition on the main floor describes the city as a centre of knowledge during the time of the Moors, especially through the 12th to 14th centuries. Not much English translation on this floor although a small brochure in English is a huge help. However the historic and contemporary art works and artifacts that make up the rest of the museum displays are described in Spanish and English. Entry is free but check the website for opening times as they take a long afternoon break.

Good Exhibition of City of Knowledge
Aug 2017 • Solo
When Malaga was part of the Kingdom of Al-Andalus, it was known as the city of knowledge because there were many scholars who lived in the city. The exhibition shows many books from that time period and also pottery and other artifacts from that period.
