Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This time we didn`t stop in Malaga like 3 years ago, but were in transit for only 6 hours. But we couldn't give up the pleasure of swimming on La Malagueta. I remember the first time I was ready to go to this beach just for the sake of the beautiful name that the beach got from the name of the quarter in which it is located. But that's certainly not the point. The beach is quite large, 1, 2 kilometers long and 50 meters wide. With a sufficiently developed infrastructure: shower, volleyball courts, umbrellas. Many people don`t like that this is a city beach with houses facing it. But this is a common thing. These are the beaches in Valencia, Barcelona, Salou, Tarragona. On the contrary, there is no feeling of a tourist reservation like in some Hurghada. This time it was already in the evening and there were few people on the beach. But that didn't make La Malagueta any worse...

We visited Malaga for Easter and were welcomed by wonderful warm days and sunshine. We strolled to Playa de la Malagueta as soon as we arrived in order to get some sense of where were we were in the city and to watch some brave locals swimming in the rough seas.
Later during our Malaga visit, we walked the length of the beach along the promenade and past the beachside restaurants serving delicious-looking barbecued sardines. Whilst the beach wasn't the most attractive on the Costa del Sol, for a city beach it was more than adequate and much nicer nearer the lighthouse end.

however this beach is way too pebbly for me and a big deep dip to get to your waist, i prefer a gradual smooth footing. super busy too.

We rented a few chairs and a shade and spent a couple of hours on the beach. The water was still cold; hence swimming was out of a question for us (although a few locals were in the water). It was Easter Sunday and the beach was filled with locals trying to get a tan.

Beach is nice, but the facilities are not. Restrooms were awful, food selection was mediocre. Chairs and umbrellas were limited. Nerja just 30 minutes away was much nicer.

Handy to the centre but really not a nice beach. Pay a few euro and get a taxi down to Playa del Palo and enjoy the best that the Costa del Sol has to offer.

A great public beach. Well maintained. Definitely looks like it’s cleaned often as there was little to no garbage. We enjoyed laying on the beach and playing in the sand. It was hours of well spent time.

One of our favourite beaches we like to go to. Even in the low season, you can still sit in the sun and have a nice day. We had some nice beach days in January, with temperatures at 20 degrees Celsius.
I’d recommend the small beach chair rental, at the beginning of the Paseo Marítimo, opposite the Burger King and Meventos Antionio Martin. A very friendly fellow runs it. During low season, you can rent two chairs and an umbrella for a discount and pay €10. There is a relatively clean public toilet next to it.

The customer service was disgraceful, staff just kept ignoring our requests for drinks. The staff were also very miserable and unfriendly when they did eventually acknowledge us. However my partner and I did notice the older male staff being very helpful and friendly to 2 young ladies at the table next to us. We will not go back!.

It's an urban beach, so if you have visions of white sands as far as the eye can see, this isn't your place. But if you're in the city and you need a quick beach break, or you want to go see the sea for an hour or two it'll do quite nicely. As urban beaches go it seems pretty nice, and pretty standard. There are cafes near the water, there are guys with bags of beers for sale, people selling massages, etc. It is what it is and you are where you are.

Veronica5 has it about right, we stayed in this area just by Muelle Uno. You might consider Pedregalejo, a mile up the beach and on the local bus routes.
