“Latin - Trumpet –Vienna – Manuel”
Jan 2020
Are the unlikely set of words that epitomises the magnificent New year concert given by the Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra at The Auditorium Felipe VI in Estepona on 4th January 2020. The majority of the works in the program originate from Latin America, With thoughts of the first time I heard the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra now stripped of their ‘Youth’ part because they are getting to old! The Peanut vender by Simons being the opening piece followed by the haunting melodies of a Waltz by Piazzola From the Oblivion album. The rest of the first half was devoted to the works of Pacho Flores the renowned Trumpeter and Composer, winner of the prestigious Maurice Andre international competition for this instrument. His first offering was Vals Moracota demonstrating his amazing virtuosity, and then Joined by Leo Rondon playing an instrument that I had never heard of, the Cuatro Venezolano, that has four strings and is similar looking to a large Ukulele, Together they were the principles of a major Concerto from the pen of Flores, Cantos Revueltas, having several cadenza, one of which lasted for well over 20 minutes of dexterous elaborate strumming. This piece was received with a standing ovation.
After the interval, with influences from Vienna, two pieces by Johann Strauss Jr. the Blue Danube Waltz and the Polka Donna and Blitzen. A fandango written by Vives from A Zarauela ( Spanish comic operetta Dona Francisquita) followed by a Malabo by Argentinian Ginastera from his Estancia ballet that kept the five Percussionists busy. Tico Tico that hit Brazilian Samba was played with much gusto. And Marquezez’s Conga del Fuego Nuevo that followed nearly had the audience dancing in the Isles!, but they would not let Maestro Manuel Hernandez Silva get away without an encore, and one with which he could play the audience with, Johann Strauss senoir’s Radetzky march, he had the whole house clapping to his ‘stop – start- quiet- Loud instructions. His Charismatic acrobatic performance had won the approval of all, indeed the main topic of conversation was his ebullient conducting that saw him joining in the music making to great effect. Such a pity for the MFO who will be losing him from June of this year

Wonderful Evening
Jan 2020
Last evening we visited this wonderful theatre to listen and watch a performance by Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra. The program played enthusiastically by an ensemble of fabulous musicians with special mentions going to the soloists a trumpeter and flamenco guitarist was not only flawless but extremely entertaining. Thank you to all.

Brilliant night seeing Daniel Casares recording
May 2019 • Couples
First time at this theatre, wonderful acoustics, and what an amazing night of music, clapping, flamenco. As it was being recorded live, it was straight through with no break. What a buzzing evening, loved it. The only down side was the queue at the quite small bar.

Swan Lake - breath taking!
Jan 2018 • Friends
Watched the Kiev Ballet perform Swan Lake and they were excellent.
I had never been to the theater before and was very impressed with the facilities. Location and parking was easy. Inside, seating was comfortable and every seat had a good view of the stage.

Wizard of OZ
Dec 2015 • Family
We went on december to see the musical Wizard of OZ to the Teatro Auditorio Felipe VI. It was amazing!
The theatre is not huge and you can see very well from every seat (we were just in the middle of the middle and was perfect even with small children), because of its size the sound is wonderful. Prices are super accessible (similar to the cost of a cinema entrance)
The singers were great but the lady playing Dorothy had the most amazing voice, she was incredible talented :) Just loved it!
