Came for the castle but always like to look in a cathedral. There was no charge. Being Easter there were some elaborate thrones ready for the processions. The stone structure of the roof is excellent but the building is very dark as it has few windows. Unusual.

Spend just a few euros and you will have a peaceful tour listening to the recorded tour. Visitors are expected to wander quietly at your own pace - although you may experience a noisy tour guide & party as we did.

I love visiting cathedrals and churches in spite of my atheism. They can be beautiful, moving and fascinating historically. Here you are given a recorded commentary thing which you listen to as you move around. I must admit I faltered in the face of the constant claiming of mystery etc!

It was €5 to get into the Cathedral. It was a bargain. They offered me the old persons' rate but I thought that in a House of God it was taking a chance to accept the over-65 rate as I have just turned 61. The cathedral included some religious stuff, which was not entirely surprising. There was also a good... More

It is what it says on the tin.. a cathedral, but not a good one. the porticoed terrace inside is beautiful and worth the climb up the stairs, but the cathedral itself felt over restored and largely uninteresting. yes it has all the prerequisites, gold, wooden choir, high alter, big organ, but it felt dead, no spirit, no life.. not... Out of season I had the luxury of wandering around this wonderful fortified cathedral unhurried and with no more than six other visitors to cross my path. There are handset guides in a selection of languages plus a series of history points. The building is stunning, its museum is beautiful too and the fountained courtyard is a gem. Ticket entry... The Cathedral of Almeria primarily served as a fortress (after it was built in the 16th century) in defense of the many pirate (Corsair) raids from North Africa (the Barbary coast). The Cathedral square was a main center for various Inquisition processes. Contrasting this violent exterior history is a lovely most tranquil interior.

Well worth visiting when in Almeria. Minimal entrance fee with audio included which was most informative. Amazing architecture.

When we toured they were painting inside so the fumes were though to tolerate so we hurried the tour. But it is beautiful inside and informational headphones are offered and helpful. Worth a visit.
