Must Visit in Wittenberg

You have to visit Luther's house if you are in his city. There is currently a special exhibit for the 500th anniversary that is equally as good as Lutherhaus itself.

The house has some nice exhibits and makes a possible addition to the adjoining exhibition on Luther and '95 objects 95 people'. But there is so much to take in here that I would concentrate on the adjoining new exhibition first. Review of exhibition - not house - now follows: This is quite engrossing and the 95/95 component quite moving.... More

We were there just as the work crews were adding the finishing touches to the house for the 500th anniversary. Excellent opportunities to take your time and go through all the exhibits.

We will return because the courtyard is closed and it looked lovely from the windows of the building itself. Wittenberg is a really nice town so it will be a pleasure to return. They are still renovating so it is ready for the 500 year celebration so check before you travel to see if everything is open. The house itself... More

A must see when. Tracing the steps of Martin Luther! Fredrick gave this little "cottage" to the Luthers which they turned into Wittenberg's first B&B.

There is a well of information here about the work of Martin Luther and much is original from the time of Luther's residence in Wittenberg. There is some building works going on in preparation for the 500th anniversary of Luther's Reformation in October, but there is still much to see.

I visited right after they reopened. It was a great trip with lots of different exhibits. My favorite is the Cranach Ten Commandments piece, but the museum includes other pieces of art and many first editions of Luther's works. If you're interested in Luther, you cannot miss this place!

I got the chance to visit Lutherhaus just after it reopened, in time for the 500th Anniversary. The museum gives great detail into Luther's life and the history of Germany/Europe in that time period. One sad detail, in the obvious rush to complete the museum in time, the English translations rarely went well. There were spelling mistakes and miss-translations on... More

The renovations are nearly complete to celebrate the life and work of Martin Luther. Our group was sad to miss this site but enjoyed the rest of the town on our tour.
