Quite impressive and definitely perfectly located on a boulevard that is pretty much reminiscent of Eastern countries atmosphere. In any case a good opportunity to rem one of the must influential thinker of the last Century. Good background too with one of his better known citations in several languages.

How can I write a comment regarding this monument...simply put it it is a relic of some distant past that only represents lies and a system which collapsed...nothing more...there is a touch of nostalgie perhaps of what that past meant....

This is the second-biggest head statue in the world, showing Karl Marx, to whom the city used to be named in socialist times. In the background you find the first lines of the Communist Manifesto carved into the wall behind.

Found in front of an old Soviet style building - with a integrated panel on the building depicting who it is. Worth a visit for curiosity sake

A very famous statue in Chemnitz. As you might know the city was named after Karl Marx some decades ago.

A good (and of course free) place for someone who is interested in history to visit. Noting more or less to add.

For all those we admire the advantages of Communism, this might be a great thing, but, in my opinion, this huge head was not worth the bother.

Not so much to look at but the symbolism does weigh heavily on your mind. In fact the building behind the statue does rather sum up the architecture of the era.
Having seen the Soviet monuments in Berlin, Bratislava etc this one is a bit less overbearing.
Not much else to do in Chemnitz so just rock up and then move on to Dresden or Saxon Switzerland.

The city itself is also called as Karl Marx Stadt. It is very nice to see a monument which is not typically designed. I would definitely recommend visiting.

My grandmother told me she was from Marx, Hanover, Ostfriedsland, Prussia. My cousin and I are planning a trip to trace our roots, but I can’t find a town called Marx. Do you think this statue and history might be what she was talking about? Thank you
