View from above

Lovely viewpoint for the old town of Trier. It’s a good 25 min hike but energising! I recommend taking water with you - there is nothing by means of coffee shops on the way

She overlooks the city but you can't see her up close
Jul 2019
If you are going to see the Madonna I'd say not worth it. You cannot get a view of her from the back of the statue and if you stand back you can only view from the side or behind. The overlook of the city is quite pretty but not worth the effort to get up there. Best viewed from the city with a zoom lense. She is lit up at night and always easy to spot.

Fantastic statue can be seen from far
May 2019 • Solo
This 40m high statue can be seen from almost everywhere in Trier. Even from a distance it is quite impressive. You have to take note of it

The best Trier view
Sep 2018 • Friends
If you like see on the top, this place is your place. You have to park on the road, be careful, and walk up the stairs, wood stairs, be careful too. The stairs could be wets.

What a view!
Dec 2017 • Family
It is a fun drive through windy streets then forest to see St. Mary's Column (1866) above Trier. There is a short hike up from the road and then a magnificent panoramic view of Trier and the Moselle Valley.

You Hon't Have to Cross the River to See It
Jun 2018 • Solo
But if you don't cross the river you won't have the opportunity to climb it and and see the apparently wonderful view. I had no car and too little time to cross. This statue, 40 meters high and hard to miss, was erected in the 1860s to commemorate the concept of the Immaculate Conception, and (hot tip heh heh) can be viewed in the distance from a lovely path along the other (main tourist area/old town) side of the river, which I strolled along to have a look at the Roman Bridge.

On my way I kept glimpsing this statue in the distance and vowed to find out what it is. Then I became lazy, forgot, and here it is weeks after my tour. While writing TripAdvisor reviews today I looked it up and NOW I know the answer - happy to share it with you. You're welcome.

Nice Drive to See Column
Sep 2016 • Solo
Using google maps we were able to find the correct roads to take my husband and his parents to the column. Easy drive. Stairs to climb. If you have aged parents they might not be able to climb the stairs.(step, step, walk 2 ft then repeat). Lovely absolutely lovely views. Well worth it.

Best view over the city
Jul 2016 • Friends
Visited couple of times with different people, this place offer the best view to the city. You can choose if you go up by car, by bike or if you prefer a nice walk uphill through the forest.

Vintage view
Jul 2016 • Couples
A prime vantage point to look over the city on the other side of the river. The monument is perched high on the hill offering magnificent views.

From a distance
Mar 2016 • Family
Saw it from a distance and was a bit surprised with such a statue on a mountain top. Didn't feel the need to go there and aparently that was a misjudgement.
