The place is run by a private initiative, who put a lot of enthusiasm into it. I have been there twice, the second time to show it to friends and both times I was lucky enough to meet one of the leading members of the initiative. He gave us almost interesting private tour, which is not regularly offered. However, if... More

It was the most interesting place I have visited in Mainz. Linking past with the future, not too crowded, not overpacked. Just perfect to see, learn and understand. Big thank you to wonderful ladies who gave us introduction in English :)

This place is accessed through a storefront inside of what seems to be a small mall. There is no fee for admission but donations are encouraged (and you really should give something for this). The clerks behind the desk had a nice English guide for me borrow as I walked through the exhibit/excavation. The guide had clear pictures so it... More

First a couple of tips. Be sure you get the English brochure and have a source of light before you go down to the ruins. The brochure is actually quite good and there is (as others have pointed out) no English information on any of the items. Also, there are two entrances to the mall - this is at the... More

I was here with my friends and the museum is inside a shopping centre which is unexpected. The guides inside were so helpful, they gave us a tour in German and in English and were willing to answer lots of questions. The museum itself is also amazing, who knew that this gem would be in a shopping centre?

We stumbled across this by accident, it is hiding in the basement of a shopping centre, we were fortunate to have a guided tour by the assistant there which made it very interesting as we do not speak german so couldnt read the info

I was looking for any and all museums in the area, and this gem was a great surprise. Being pagan , or even interested in egyptian mythology or culture as it is that side of the Rhine, " the other side is mainly Christian", I was looking for history and boy did I find it. I have never been a... More

This place was a great surprise. It is located inside a small shopping mall--and indeed, this ancient Roman temple was only discovered in the course of excavations to build the mall. The exhibit is free. A lot of printed information is provided--all in German--but you can ask for a brochure (to be returned at the end of your visit) in... More

An amazing find and well presented. I get a kick of exploring ancient artifacts in the basement of a mall. There was no entry fee. They had a translation of the exhibits in English including an audio presentation. An interesting insight into the Roman religion since both gods were not even Roman in origin. Reminded me of my visit to... More

A very nice and informative exhibition of the remains of the Isis and Mater Magna Temple that was uncovered when digging up the soil in that area. If you have the chance, asks for a personal tour of the exhibition of one of the volunteers. Although there is no entrance fee, a small donation for the society, that is taking... More
