About
Wafting through Cologne, the scents of gingerbread, roasted chestnuts, and mulled wine hail the arrival of Kölner Weihnachtsmarkt, the city's festive annual Christmas market. Actually a collection of various markets around Cologne, the event begins the last Monday before Advent and runs for one month leading up to Christmas. The biggest and most festive market resides at the ornate Cologne Cathedral, where about 150 merrily decorated wooden booths serve up wintry treats and display artisanal crafts, such as colorful blown glass and intricate wood carvings. In the cathedral's square, children ride the carousel and visitors of all ages marvel at North-Rhine Westphalia's largest natural Christmas tree, lit by 50,000 LED lights.

Our holiday was cancelled on route to our holiday so holiday was cancelled I requested a refund and received a letter confirming this would happen within 14 days They have now rang me trying to wriggle out of it and give me a credit note for another holiday or wait another 3 months for my refund I am not the first customer that this has happened to This company is a disgrace and should be avoided at all costs

German Christmas markets
Dec 2019
Cologne has extensive Christmas markets that start at Heumarkt and go to the Cathedral and several others: Neumarkt, Chocolate museum, and Hahnentorburg. Regional specialties and organically certified food all of a high level of quality are offered at the markets. Quality is a priority even with the numerous craftsmen. The large variety of gift ideas such as woodcarvings, glass balls, ceramics, accessories, children's toys, soaps, etc. come mainly from Germany and Europe. These markets are set up with two themed alleys have also been set up: the “Futtergasse” (Feeding Alley) where visitors can buy national and international food specialties, and the “Glitzergasse” (Glitter Alley) where fashion accessories are for sale. They are a lot of fun and enjoy the food and window shop for gifts! Allow ~1 hr for your visit.

Magical Experience!
Jan 2020 • Couples
The Cologne Christmas Market was like something straight out of a storybook. We absolutely loved seeing all of the darling treats and holiday items. Although it was quite crowded, it felt safe and fun. If you are in Cologne in December, you must stop at this Christmas Market.

Love the markets here in Cologne.
Jan 2020 • Friends
Of all the markets in Cologne this location was by far my favorite. They had the biggest crowds and maybe even more markets too.

A warm annual mug (for purchase) with some spiced gluewein in hand. This is what makes for a bearable winter here. Meeting up with friends or colleagues over some warmth and holiday cheer in a mug.

The wood kiosks were all vending potato pancakes or Christmas ornaments or this and that kind of crafts.

This was such A wonderful place to really see the full extent of the Christmas spirit here in Germany. I’ve never seen a Christmas market like the ones here.

Christmas Market bonanza!
Dec 2019
This market is one of the best we went to on our tour. This Cologne market is located immediately beside their world class cathedral and is quite large and a lot of fun. You can also walk quite easily to two more excellent markets as you walk towards the waterfront. All the markets in Cologne, we went to these 3....were excellent and if you only had one city to go to to see Christmas markets, this would be the one. They are well attended so you can expect lots of people, but the crowds are manageable and it was a good deal of fun.

Our first visit to the Christmas markets in Cologne. We all enjoyed our visit. Make sure you plan a visit to all the various market locations. Must stop at one of the beer halls for a drink.

Festive!
Nov 2019
Celebrating Christmas in Germany is quite difference than in other countries. Each town / city has their own Christmas Markets. In Cologne, there are several markets, mostly around the Cologne Cathedral. Each one has their specialty and one even has a skating rink.

The Re-cyclers!
Dec 2019
I would like to mention the “recycling” organisation that makes bags, and oddities from recycled material ranging from cycle tyres, tubes. I found this to be an excellent way to handle the disposed material. Not only are these “difficult to decompose” materials used again, but they are used for a super purpose. I was impressed with the range of things made from wasted/thrown away stuff and hence 5 complete stars for the effort.

The Christmas as usual is an assortment of wonderful nik naks, snacks, drinks and off course the (in) famous Gluhwein! A wine drunk HOT with many combinations like Rum (my favorite), whiskey etc!! A riot for those that like their tipple.
