The history of the cathedral is dramatic. From Napoleon using it as stable for his horses to the USSR soldiers during WWII. This and much more can be seen here.

The cathedral dominates the city center, making it impossible to miss. Going inside is free of charge (there is a small charge to climb the tower). The inside is very bright and airy due to the white paint with colorful accents. I love visiting European churches, and the stained glass really stuck out as a highlight in this one. Pay... More

We climbed the 219 steps to the top and were well rewarded with 360 degree views of beautiful Schwerin. The church itself was also worth a wander around.

We went upstairs to the lookout and it is worth to contemplate the whole city of Schwerin with its beautifull lakes and architechture!

The cathedral is a lovely red brick church and the church tower can be seen from almost anywhere in the city. Renovations underway in various parts of the cathedral, but go anyway.

I went up with my youth group from church and while at the cathedral, we went up the tower. The view was amazing and it was just so wonderful. It's definitely worth the climb!

We wandered into the cathedral after our visit to the castle, not really knowing what to expect. How fascinating then to come across the tombs of the Grand Dukes of Mecklenburg-Schwerin in the dark corners behind the altar. No fuss, no particular fuss made of them which seemed a shame, since they had played such a role in the history... More

Even though the original cathedral was built in the 12th century (originally wood) the structure now standing was added on from the 14th century through the 18th century. The red brick comes from the surrounding area and would have been made by hand. Although very beautiful inside, take a look at the outside and notice the small square holes for... More

The cathedral is a lovely church that really dominates the city. If you climb the tower, the view is fantastic. However, the stairs are steep and narrow. If you suffer from claustrophobia, don't climb the stairs.
