Stunning theatre in Wiesbaden
Aug 2020
Absolutely beautiful building! I recommend seeing a show when possible, but you can also enjoy it from outside the building. There are parks on both sides of the theatre and it is very close to downtown where the market is held on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Bring a picnic and bask on the lawn by the theatre. If you attend a show, I recommend formal attire to match the building's grandeur inside.

Amazing environment with great performance
Feb 2020 • Family
Amazing environment with great performance we came early before the start and enjoyed a drink in the amazing atmosphere of the Foyer. The bar serves small snacks and nice drinks in a stunning setting. The performance was powerful and on high standards. We will come again.

The Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden is the state theater of Hesse. The theater produces operas, plays, ballets, musicals, and concerts. Built in 1894 and restored after World War II. The most ornate part of the building and where three of the four halls are located is considered the back of the building.

Nice theatre, appreciate the willingness to push to new approach, atmosphere. Not conventional shows, mix of tradition and innovation. Worth the experience

Outstanding experience
Feb 2019 • Couples
Attended a ballet here with private box seats just 2 weeks after moving to wiesbaden and we're blown away by the beauty, performance, architecture etc... outstanding. We will be going once a month for something. No lifts so be prepared for steps. Worth it and intermission experience was incredible in the magnificent ball room.

An average European opera house, small and functional, good acoustics
Apr 2018
This opera house is smaller than the average European house, and is less opulent than opera houses in Prague, Vienna or New York. But it functions well, and is in great shape. Easy access via the metro, and it is a short walk from the old town with its myriad restaurants, cafes and bars.

Gorgeous theatre
Sep 2017 • Couples
Visiting Germany. Glad we could see inside this wonderful testament to opera. Pity the season didn’t have an opera performing then. Spacious and yet surprisingly intimate. Comfortable seats and gorgeous stairs, floors and ceilings. Worth the visit.

Gorgeous building in a nice park
Sep 2017
This is a very impressiv building. I didn't go inside but enjoyed the intricate carvings from the outside. It is set in a nice park with a few sculptures and a small lake inhabited by lots of ducks and geese. Very enjoyable to wander through but not 'life-changing'!

Excellent opera house, first rate performances
May 2017
The State Theatre, opened in 1894, designed by Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer, was modelled on their other opera houses in Prague and Zurich. It was bombed in Feb 1945 and only fully restored in the 1970s. It has seats for more than a thousand people and has large modern backstage facilities. The entrance is now on the opposite side to the main façade. We attended outstanding performances of Der Ring des Neibelungen as part of the Internationale Maifestspiele in this lovely theatre. The balcony seats are comfortable, with enough leg room(except in parts of the front row) acoustics excellent, stage view good. There is ample circulation space and affordable refreshments. I was amazed at the seat prices...we enjoyed the whole Ring Cycle for what would have been the cost of one mid price ticket elsewhere. We look forward to coming again.
