The town hall is a beautiful building and has a lovely court yard. If you can speak German there's plenty to read about inside but no other languages. We did sandemanns free walking tour which explained all about the building which was so interesting but without the tour we wouldn't have been able to learn anything about it which is... More

Seeing the Rathaus from outside is already very nice. It's even better if you've a chance to join a guided tour which gives you access to the interior which would otherwise be closed to the public. Our guide (a German lady called Martina) speaks very good English. She explained to us the history of the Rathaus and the features of... More

Tours are not available on all days. None on day that I visited. Stop at information desk to your right upon entering to pickup an information sheet in your language. Every 15 minutes, the mechanical bell is rung above the clock. Don't miss it. The architecture is unique and the info sheet describes it meaning.

Built in the late 1800s, Hamburg’s Rathaus is a stunning building that dominates the centre of the city. It is home to the city’s senate and parliament. I admired the impressive architecture of its exterior wishing I had the time for a tour inside. This is surely the most captivating building in the city and a must see when in... More

Town Hall or Rathausmarkt, Hamburg, Germany was impressive. We didn't have a change to go inside but the outside was cool.

Majestic and awesome... if not for the cold chilly weather that is seeping into my spine, I would have literally stood in the public square in front of the town hall and gawk and marvel at this architectural beauty for hours. Good photo opportunities from whichever angle. Truly a grand reminder of Hamburg's Hanseatic history.

Having got engaged here 4 years ago, we like to come back and visit to get a few pictures. Building is beautiful and it is right next to the Alster, which is equally as good!
