Excellent walk, Barnaby is very informative and entertaining. Not just a lecture but an interactive and thought provoking experience, which was also very funny at times. A thoroughly enjoyable four hours in which I feel I gleaned a lot of information, but in a relaxed manner. Definitely recommended.

Very interesting and informative tour . Our tour guide Nickolai was excellent and we had a very enjoyable few hours learning how life was for the east germans for the end of world war 2 until the late eighties.

Excellent tour by Brian .Very informative and evenhanded commentary. Highly recommended tour to this sad place one should not miss it. The misery and cruelty is tangible and would touch the hardest heart. It reinforces the need to never forget what happened here and similar places.

We did the 'Famous Walk' - a four hour tour with Insider Tours. Our guide Phil had a degree in history (as well as a fantastic sense of humour) and he provided great insight into past and present Berlin. We saw all the main sights as well as a lot of the city. Well worth doing and great value for... More

David was a very thorough and knowledgable tour guide who covered all types of subjects regarding German/Berlin history. We particularly enjoyed his witty anecdotes and will definitely be booking another tour next time we are in Berlin.

We took the tour which started at Zoo station. 10 euros with a Welcome Card, if you don't have a card you will also have to buy your own train ticket to the east side where the tour actually starts. Our guide was JJ. He was informative and entertaining, it can't be easy to keep people interested on a 4... More

The extremely knowledgeable and interesting Cesar took charge of our Third Reich Berlin tour. We visited lots of interested sites which would have largely gone unnoticed had we travelled alone. What I think really makes these tours, and the guides, is the little side stories they tell you which really bring the experience to life. Also, it is when the... More

We (a group of Irish female Nordic Walkers) did the third Reich walking tour with Taylor from Insider Tours. I would recommend this to anyone with an interest in history or just for information. Taylor is an amazing guide ( he is also easy on the eye...) he is so knowledgeable and keeps your interest for the whole 4.5 hours.

If you do this tour then try and get Jamie as your guide. An archeologist by profession and a trained actor he certainly had a great way of bringing the city to life with real character. The tour itself was 4 hours long and engaging and interesting throughout. Making our way from he East across all the main sites to... More

Staying in Charlottenburg

Neighbourhood Profile
Charlottenburg
Breathe in Berlin’s royal past while walking through the gardens of beautiful Charlottenburg Palace, which lends its name to this well-heeled neighbourhood. Here you'll find some of the oldest homes in the city: upper-class apartment buildings with ornate facades and marble-floored foyers line the cobblestone streets. Stroll by sophisticated restaurants, through little parks, or around Lake Lietzensee. Window shop down Kurfürstendamm, the most renowned high-end shopping street in Berlin, where you can find all the big designer names. In the evening, visit one of the old theatres close by Zoo Station which were nightlife hot spots in the 1920s, or dine in one of the many international restaurants around Savignyplatz before heading to other parts of town for a night out.
