Starting and ending at Nollendorfplatz, this 90-minute tour visits the neighbourhood British writer Christopher Isherwood lived in during his time in Berlin in the last years of the Weimar Republic and where he wrote his famous Berlin diaries, which were to become the iconic film & stage musical, Cabaret. The walk includes readings from his novels and diaries and takes in the sights he wrote about and the cafes, bars and clubs he frequented. Taste the city as he saw it in those uncertain times, where Cabaret was born, genders were blurred and a film premiere caused riots! Tours are usually on Saturday at 11am, but other times are available by arrangement.

Brendan was everything these reviews say and more! We were on a whirlwind tour and he made himself available at a time he wouldn't normally do tours. We were a mixed lot, some with Isherwood knowledge to "I came to Germany for the beer" but...More

Brendan proved to be an excellent guide to Isherwood's life in Berlin. By placing Isherwood's story in a political and cultural context, centred around the gay social scene that he inhabited (and which is still centred in this area today), Brendan helped us imagine Berlin...More

Brendan and the tour was absolutely wonderful. I am obsessed with the musical "Cabaret" and find the Weimar Era fascinating. I found his tour when I was preparing for my trip to Berlin last year, as I was googling trying to find out if there...More

Brendan makes up for the lack of Weimar-oriented tours everywhere else in Berlin. Through his vast knowledge and skillful recitation of works by Isherwood and others, he succeeds in bringing back to life a city that is no longer there. By the time the tour...More

I discovered Brendan Nash through his wonderfully evocative blog Cabaret Berlin. I took the tour with a French friend who has been living in the neighborhood (Schoneberg) for years. We were both riveted by Brendan's stories, and by his vivid, beautifully spoken recitations of excerpts...More

We didn't really know what to expect with the Isherwood tour, having been recommended it by a friend of a friend. It was without a doubt, the most enjoyable few hours we had in Berlin, and that's saying something - as we love Berlin. Brendan...More

Brendan is a passionate guide, as keen to share as he is to inform. He brings Isherwood's world vividly to life and skilfully weaves in modern references and quirky detail.

I really enjoyed the tour. Brendan brought Isherwood's Berlin back to life and his passion is infectious - can't wait to discover more about Isherwood and early 20thc. Berlin (especially gay Berlin and cabaret!)

In 1963, Schöneberg was the centre of the political
west, inspiring John F. Kennedy to choose this area to
famously announce, "Ich bin ein Berliner." Times may
have changed, but modern-day Schöneberg still pays
tribute to its historical legacies. Once the richest
city outside of Berlin proper, the area's affluent
past is still visible in ornate housing facades dating
back to the Gründerzeit of the 19th century, while
