Apparently this prison was in a secret area, not shown on any maps at the time.It is some distance from central Berlin , but accessible from trams M5 and M6.You need to get there in time to get onto an English speaking tour. These are currently at 11.30 and 2.30 but you must check beforehand.Visitors can only go round with... More

The place is worth to visit, because of few reasons. First, this old prision which was used in the communist time of German Democratic Republic is very well preserved, you can see how the cells, the interrogation rooms looked like. The idea is to make you feel like being in this closed place and think about the unjustice and terror... More

I would highly recommend a visit to this museum. You need to travel a little to the outskirts of Berlin (Tram is probably the best way) but it is well worth the effort. The prison is as the Stasi officers left it with the end of communism in East Berlin. It can only be visited with a tour guide. The... More

Although it’s a bit out of the way from central Berlin, it’s definitely worth the trip for one of the comprehensive guided tours. These only cost 6 euros & take approximately 2 hours, which includes a 30-minute video, followed by a tour around the prison, including the underground ‘submarine’ area, prison cells, interrogation rooms & outdoor ‘tiger cages’. Our guide... More

This is a bit further out from the centre of Berlin with a tram ride from Alexanderplatz and a short 3-4 minute walk. But boy was this worth it. The road you alk down to the prison is increasingly 'military' with the functional yet grim grounds and building in front of you. It cost us €6 each to go in.... More

well worth the short journey from central Berlin. We were lucky enough to be given the tour by Lothar Schultz, a truly inspirational and engaging guide, who provided his own personal experience of his time incarcerated and, his life thereafter. Insightful look at life before reunification and a good comparison to the DDR museum

Irrespective of the time of year make it your priority to take a Berlin beneath the city tour. These tours take you underground to view the WWII and Cold War bunkers wich will give you an incredible insight into the unseen worlds that wars and the threat of war make nessesary. What adds to the mistique is the entry and... More

We were quiet for hours after our almost three hour long tour of this memorial site. It's a place that'll leave you pondering how the way we seek out indigious ways to hurt one another are so overwhelming and how much love, courage, good health, willpower and luck it has taken to get through confinement in this place. I'll not... More

This is a prison that was mostly used by Stasi people (and others before them, Soviets, Nazis). The exciting part comes from the EXCELLENT guided tour. You will actually feel the reality of this place through the tours. Depending on how much you have studied this period of history, you will re-think the perversity of human mind when it comes... If you've seen the film "Das Leben der Anderen" you'll have a pretty good idea what to expect. It's the equivalent of a car accident : you don't want to but you can't help looking. Because it is so far removed from most personal experiences it should be seen, if for no other reason than to feel thankful for our... More
