Overlooked gem in the forest
Jul 2019 • Friends
This is the nicest restored building in Berlin. The guided tours are excellent. The guide is enthusiastic and knowledgeable , and can give the tour in English or in German. I have taken both tours and the information is the same. While you are there you should also stroll over to the doggie beach 5 minutes away. It is so much fun to watch the dogs splash in the water!

Little treasure in the woods
Jul 2019 • Friends
You need a ticket and a tour slot but if you are as lucky as my friend and I you just have a pretty much private tour.
Hunting memorabilia, horror story and Lucas Cranach in a hunting castle in the woods. And do not be surprised by all the dogs outside, the grunewaldsee is dog leash free area.

Loved it !
Nov 2018
Loved it, because of the beautiful settings by the lake. Very peacefull. Popular with locals walking their dogs. Not much to see inside, main floor you Will find hunting displays and paintings. 1. floor has a selection of religious paintings. Limited opening hours between november-march. Great cafe for your cakes and coffee.

Cranach & A Festival
Sep 2018 • Couples
We were slow humans on an autobahn for dogs strolling along a path that followed the shores of Grunewald See. Grunewald Forest is a dog park where owners and their dogs go to exercise and socialize and swim.

The Capitol of this whimsical but vital realm is the Jagdschloss Grunewald a 16th Century Hohenzollern hunting lodge. The reward at the end of the walk is the lodge is full of the works of Lucas Cranach the Elder and the Younger.

The day we walked to the Jagdschloss it was hosting a small woodworking festival with live music and good beer.

Not Worth It
Jul 2018 • Friends
You have to drive to get there - no public transit. We made a special trip. There were no signs in the parking lot telling us which path to take into the forest. Tickets at the Jagdschloss cost around twelve or fourteen euros each. They didn't tell us what was open and again there were no signs. It turned out that just the one, tall building closest to the lake was open to visitors (we were the only ones inside - the locals seem to have learned better). The ground floor is about hunting, and after three rooms of following us around the attendant told us no photos were allowed. Not sure why she didn't tell us that sooner, rather than watching us take photos for ten minutes first. The Cranachs are upstairs. They're great, but there aren't many of them. We saw lots of Cranachs in many other places in Germany. It didn't seem worth it to pay that much to spend forty minutes inside one building where most of the material was about hunting. Five euros would have been a much better price. We wouldn't go out of our way to visit here.

The Cranach Collection is of most interest
Jul 2017
Extremely good collection of Cranach, the elder and younger (their own collection and some loans). This includes a passion cycle. The rest relates to the history of hunting at this place with paintings, weapons and trophies. A nice view of the lake and there is a beer garden nearby.

Wild Boar and Nice Hotel Nearby
Jun 2016 • Friends
The Jagdschloss is a beautiful complex of buildings in a rustic setting just outside the busy neighborhoods of West Berlin at the start of the Grunewald forest. I recommend exploring the grounds and then going to the nearby hotel for a beer. They have tables outside and it's very nice to sit among the trees and have a beer outside without all of the trappings of a full beer garden. I've also seen wild boar (including babies) rooting around nearby.

Great place to chill and stay
Aug 2016 • Family
This Place is a nice old castle and museum. In the past a horse hunt was ending here (Hubertusjagt). It is surrounded by the Grunewald forrest, which is by far the largest in Berlin. Endless walkways.

This place also provides a family room to stay over night.

There is a nice little restaurant in this place. Not really great, if you r looking for something more stylish go a few meter to Haus Paulsborn.

Besides all this the Grunewald lake is known as one of the dog take out places in Berlin.

Don't expect a nice walk in the park
Apr 2016 • Couples
My boyfriend and I biked here from our place in Kreuzberg, hoping to enjoy a nice picnic on the Jagdschloss grounds on one of the first nice days of Spring. Unfortunately when we got there, we discovered the area surrounding the hunting lodge and nearby lake are either fenced off, as is the case of the lawn surrounding the lodge itself, or protected forest area. There is a path which circles the lake and which you appeared to be allowed to cycle on, but it was nearly impossible with all the dogs! There were SO many dogs! No where on the website did it state anything about it being a dog park, even though whole swatches of beach were designated as dog runs. After managing to find a leafy spot in the dirt a few meters from the path on which to set our picnic blanket we tried to enjoy our lunch, but let me state clearly in case you're still confused- This is NOT a park. No grass, no space for doing anything except walking on the designated path. If the website had been more clear on this matter, we probably wouldn't have come. Additionally, the small hunting lodge itself is quaint and maybe worth a visit but the EUR 6 entry price to see the exhibition seemed rather steep. If you have a dog though, I guess I'd recommend coming here.
