We ahd never done walking tour before always bus, but certainly recommend this to anyone visiting Berlin, if you are lucky enough to get Lizzy your in for such a treat. For a small person with a big personality and knowledge of the city told with great passion. Nothing was too much trouble, she answered all questions with enthusiasm. Could... More

On reading other reviews about the fantastic experiences people had with this company, I am disappointed and sorry to say myself and my group of friends were not so lucky. We booked this tour on the first day of our holiday as a group of 8 friends. We had just landed in Berlin and were extremely excited about seeing the... More

We can clearly confirm all the other excellent reviews for Free Berlin Tours. We took the Berlin's best tour on a cold December day. Our guide was Martin, who found the right "tone" for both the adults and our kids (10-16 years). This tour is in particular useful if you want to get an overview of the sights in Berlin... More

We had a great time on the Berlin Wall-WW2 3 hr bike tour. Karin (the Italian Berliner) was our guide and she was really passionate about her adopted city. While it was slowly getting colder and the sun was setting the city started to have an almost magical hue, the freezing mist added to the erie feel but didn't detract... More

Great "Poor and Sexy" tour with Johannes who had good stories and was very pleasant. We discovered areas of Berlin we would not have visited otherwise.

Amazing experience. If you really want to get to know Berlin, this is the way to do it. Apart from taking you on a tour around the most popular and interesting locations, the guide talks about how all of them are a part of the citiys history, culture, people and general identity. Plus, our guide, Ben, also talked about less... More

Hello there! I really recommend to take the Free Walking Tour in what used to be East Berlin. This is the part where most part of the city's history takes place, specially during the Cold War but also important events during the Nazi period, Weimar Republic and Prussian Empire. My guide was Chloe, a Brit, and she made the tour... More

We did a three-hour "Introduction to Berlin" tour. Markus, our guide was very knowledgeable with excellent English. Berlin is a flat city and the traffic is very cycle-friendly, so bikes are a great way to get around, especially as Berlin doesn't have one centre. We learned and saw so much that we wouldn't have known about if we were on... More

David from England was our guide, and was very professional and friendly. I was impressed with the amount of information he conveyed about the history of the city. He also knew all the answers to questions people had. I would recommend this tour for first-timers to the city.

3 hours of leisurely cycling thru the city - great way to cover more ground and see neighborhoods and places up close. We did the tour on a Saturday and there was minimal traffic. We did the Poor and Sexy-Tour - next visit we will come back and do one of the other tours. Christian was our guide, who was... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
