A highly interesting - yet simple and sombre - place of remembrance and education. At a time in history when dissent was not allowed, misery and death often awaited those who stood up for their beliefs. This place tells the tales of some of these people, during many of darkest and most senseless hours in the history of WWII. Easily... More

The memorial lies besides a still working prison. It is made of a commemorative monument, a former hanging room used by the Nazis and another room where some details are given about the history of the place and some of those who lost their lives to the Nazi dictatorship here. Among them, many of the responsible for the temptative coup... More

I am not sure why this place does not appear in many guide books. I visited here many years ago, before the wall came down, and was struck then by the power of emotion this place brings to you. It is a small two room memorial, very quiet, we were there on our own. Very sombre and touching experience. It... More

There is a great chance that visitors are alone here, which makes it even more impressive. From 1933 to 1945, 2891 people were executed here. Today, the execution chamber is a appealing memorial. The other chamber is a documentation centre which gives the victims names and faces. The location is a bit remote, but it is worth to visit.

In all honesty I didn't know much about Plotzensee Memorial until I was taken there by a friend. The memorial itself was very moving, and I was very interested to read about the people that lost their lives there under the Nazi regime. Unfortunately, however, the English side of the information boards has been translated quite badly, which detracted from... More

I went to visit the memorial this year in memory of my great grandfather Ladislav Jiri Lukes, who was executed here during the Bloody Nights on 9/9/1943. Mr. Lukes was a member of Czechoslovak resistance as an informant. The hooks where he was hung to death in a multiple hanging are still there, in a simple memorial hall. In the... More

For anyone interested in WW2 history, this memorial is worth visiting. The small building houses the execution chamber where almost 3000 prisoners were killed between 1933 and 1945. The disturbing chamber features a beam from which multiple hangings took place. Perhaps the most famous victims included those held responsible for the plot against Hitler in 1944, led by Count von... More

I had read accounts of those who opposed the Nazi regime, and here at Plotzensee Prison many were executed. The memorial and information centre are housed in a simple brick building surrounded by a prison still used as a juvenile detention centre. The information room clearly and concisely sets out the warped Nazi "justice" system with personal stories of many... More
