Had a rather cold and damp walk along the gallery. Found the wall art very interesting and thought provoking. Shame that sections had been graffitied and as a result fencing enclosed large parts of the wall. Would have been good to see more commentary or explanation of the art.

We used the 'Hop on, Hop off bus' to visit the East Side Gallery. I was slightly disappointed when we arrived. The art work on the wall itself is beautiful but obstructing photographs is a metal railing. The wall itself is also covered in a lot of graffiti and the area was poorly looked after, with rather a lot of... More

It is amazing. You should definitely visit this spot. It is amazing when you see the Berlin wall has turned to a beautiful and meaningful art gallery. Truly reminds you of this quotation "take your broken heart, make it into art". A very meaningful spot which talks to you about history.

Visited here on a sunny day as a brief stop on a bus tour around Berlin. Very beautiful art to admire, some better than others but all worth a visit. Nice walk along the Spree as well as it is just behind the gallery wall. Certain paintings (more well known ones) were busier than others with tourists but thats to... More

Brilliant edgy urban vibe in this part of Berlin. Would have gladly spent hours here, exploring properly, had it not been totally Baltic cold!

The wall is a huge part of Berlins history however it was a disappointing visit. We arrived by taxi and it was situated next to a large busy road. I was expecting more to be going on around it. If you visit expect to literally walk down the street next to a wall.

This was interesting, at a glance it looks a bit shabby, however, it clearly shows the history of what has gone on and is definitely a must see. We walked along taking pictures, and luckily it was sunny so this made it a really pleasent walk.

It has some pretty cool art that extends for several blocks, of course the famous paintings can get quite crowded with tourists, but still it's a must when in Berlin!

The artwork have soften the actual function of the wall during the separation of east and west Germany. There is still remnants of the old wall. Nonetheless, it is important to see that every country has their way to preserve their history and becoming part of their everyday lifes

You need to go and see this but it could be presented better. The walk is about 1.3km but when you stop and look at every section it'll take you an hour to finish it. The majority of it is covered by mesh fencing to stop you being able to get too close which is understandable but if it's a... More

Staying in Friedrichshain

Neighbourhood Profile
Friedrichshain
When you arrive at Warschauer Strasse in the heart of the district, you have found one of Berlin’s party hotspots. At night in Friedrichshain, the energy is palpable and the streets of this old worker's quarter are full of street musicians. On one hand, you may find a bar with international crowds, electronic music, long lines and panoramic views - on the other, an outside venue by old train yards featuring decrepit buildings and live alternative music. No matter your taste, the best way to end a night out in Friedrichshain is sitting by the Spree River at the East side gallery, the longest and best preserved piece of the Berlin Wall, watching the sun rise over the beautiful Oberbaum Bridge.
