We went this week - myself and my partner. This market costs €1 entrance and once in you can't leave with out repaying - which is fine as it very cheap. This is the best market I think. Very food and drink orientated with fantastic bars and restaurants which are very German/Christmas themed - lovely. There are items to purchase... More

The location, 15 minutes walk from the Brandenburg gate, without the market is a lovely spot, but with the market transports you to an Alpine village. All the usual stalls selling the usual decorations, but plenty of small tavern bars to sample the different Gluwein, beers, sausages as well as well as a couple of sit down restaurants that are... Located between historic buildings which are lit by mirror balls, this is a large Christmas Market which you pay 1e to enter. The entry fee is for charity, and is a small price to pay. There is large range of traditional food stalls, and also craft stalls featuring ceramics, leatherwork, clothing, turned wood, etc. when we were there a band... More

We hopped off the bus to visit this Christmas market - so glad we did. It's a lovely market, and wasn't too busy in the daytime. Stalls, shops and eating places all very nice. Entertainment from a live musician in the square too. All of the above surrounded by some amazing historical buildings.

This Christmas market was recommended by a local Berliner and I can see why. Yes, you have to pay 1 euro to get in, but it is worth it. Lots of nice craft stalls, food, drink and music. Of course it gets very busy, because it is very good and therefore very popular. Highly recommended.

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
