The Hackeschen Hoefe is comprised of a series of courtyard buildings that house galleries and small funky retail shops. Each of the buildings has a slightly different exterior, but they blend well together. The ambience inside the Hoefe is a welcome respite from the hustle of Berlin. The complex is also steeped in history, as it is in the center... More

This series of 'yards' is just around the corner from busy Hackescher Markt square, with its open air cafés and bars. The whole area is on a 'human' scale and a pleasant area to stroll around. The yards are an example of German Secession style and are beautifully tiled, originally done in 1906 and restored after World War 2. Drop... More

This is an architectural gem! The Hackeschen Höfe are a series of consecutive interior courtyards with lots of independent designer shops. It's a pleasant way to escape the hustle and bustle of the street outside, and can also be used as a shortcut through the block. There's an excellent hat shop that also stocks large sizes, as well as a... More

A group of patios in between buildings with some nice spots to scape from the city. It was the old way jewish quarter was organized although now everything is new and with some coffees and souvenir shops, but there are quiet patios to seat and realx a bit. This is a Top attraction on the area,

Enjoy the spectacular architecture and the nice shops - You need not buy anything but just be amazed by the atmosphere with the connected gardens and old houses nicely modernized.

Stumbled on this network of beautiful squares, each with a number of individual shops, workshops, restaurants and gardens. Don't miss it.

Delightfully interesting architectural features in this courtyard, well maintained and beautiful to photograph. Small shops, restaurants and homes within the connected network of courtyards. Close walk from Hackeschermarkt.

This area is small with like 7 squares connected through small streets with small shops. Cosy and out of the wind. Restaurants and cafés where you van rest. The buildings are nice en the quality is good. Best shopping experience in berlin. In the streets outside this area you have the Well known shops too!

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
