This is a must see! It's £5 to get in for students. It's a long climb to the top, almost 300 stairs, but the view is well worth it. The cathedral also has a royal crypt bellow, where members of the royal family lay in their coffins.

An absolutely stunning Cathedral! We did not go inside but I'm sure it is amazing. The architecture rivals that of Roma cathedrals.

Definitely worth the visit. Cost Euros 7. Extremely elegant cathedral, gold leaf everywhere. Was bombed during the War, but now renovated. One is allowed to walk to the very top of the dome, but be beware it's along way to the top. However, really worth the visit.

The building itself is very impressive, but what I enjoy the most when going there is sitting on the grass next to it. You can admire the view, listen to the music of the street artists which usually perform right next to it, read a book, have a snack or just chat with people. There are many locals and tourists... Beautiful Cathedral with a great view from upstairs. Organ was beautifully played while we visited and upgraded the experience. Climbing the stairs to the top is not very strenuous and highly recommended.

Huge. If you've traveled a bit around Europe you've probably seen dozens of doms like this one, but what can we do, they're classic landmarks. You can't ignore it, it's on the Museum's Isle, five minute walk from Alexanderplaz.

My wife and I were so lucky when upon entering the most wonderful accompanied singing filled the Cathedral. More than one hundred musicians and choristers were reversing for a concert on that particular Saturday evening. We sat enthralled at the excellence of the performance and the wonderful way the acoustics enhanced their skills even further.

Gorgeous cathedral on the river - from the top you get a sweeping view of the city, and you can get those timeless photos of the gargoyles and angels overlooking their land. If you don't want to pay extra to get the audioguide you can always stop along the way up to the roof to listen to a few free... More

When I saw the building on the outside, I just had to go in. I had been walking most of the day, so I was tired. I had to pay the full €7,- since I didn't have my student card with me (in my country they never check for that anyways ;)) so yeah, it was a bit expensive. But... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
