Used as a commercial and military transport center before World War I, this famous town square, which was trapped in the no-man's-land next to the Berlin Wall during the Cold War, is currently under construction to become once again one of Berlin's chief commercial centers.

Sort of stands out amongst the many old buildings in Berlin - We came here for a beer and a decent lunch. It is was a bit more quiet than Berlin in general and we really enjoyed that as a break between sightseeing

This is a nice area to walk around, restaurants, other building etc. We were there more for the historical places so this did not exit us that much.

Potsdamer Platz is an area of new construction, tall buildings, and vibrant street fairs and activities. It seems to be making up for lost time. It is interesting to look at the markings on the ground that indicate where the Berlin Wall used to stand;...More

Suggested by hotel as place 4 food on this, a national holiday. Walked wrong way as this complex looks like office buildings. A lot of u.s. chains. Not our "thing" but good 4 a meal.

This square, located near the center of Berlin, is surrounded by some of the most interesting modern buildings in the city. Worth walking through on your way to somewhere else.

While not answering your question directly I can say we stayed right near Check Point Charlie and really liked that location. Personally I don't think you need that class of accommodation in the very modern city of Berlin.
