Iconic

Visiting all times of the day the floodlighting is wonderful at night but the classical music goes down well in the daytime too. Symbolic and dramatic and unmissable!

I understand, this is an amazing bit of architecture - and yes, I don't disagree, it is somewhat magnificently beautiful. Understanding the historical significance of this probably helps, but once you stand below it, you kind of get over its magnificence. Its pretty, but not WOW FANTASTIC pretty.

Apparently this is place everyone wants to get a selfie at! Extremely busy place, unlikely to get a pic without people in the background. But hey ho! It is beautiful to see, and there's lots of coffee shops and cafes to grab a hot beverage. And lots of stuff going on, locals doing art, playing music. Definitely worth a walk... More

Great to see such a iconic monument from our modern history. I went during the festival of lights, and included a light show with music on this gate.

If you want to get some nice quality photos then this is the place you need to go. My brother is an avid photographer and made us stay there for over an hour to get a shot and he managed to do this....so this was worthwhile.

The last time I was there was 50 years ago as a 10 year old visiting with school, what a difference, this is centrally placed and we passed through or by it a couple of times during our 3 day stay.

Everyone has heard of this icon, a must see location on your trip to Berlin. Take the time to wander and absorb the atmosphere whatever the weather. Can be a little off putting if there is demonstration going on there, which seems to happen often, but if necessary pop back later. The Berlin Pavilion cafe a short stroll through the... More

Exploring the Brandenburg Gate is really very beautiful at night. It 's very close to the Holocaust Memorial so it makes for a lovely walk! Definitely a worthwhile spot to check out in Berlin.

Beautiful bit of architecture. Surrounded by many embassies, the reichtag and within a short walk from the holocaust memorial potsdam platz and pretty much most of the tourists attractions. Photo opportunity while your in berlin without all the crowds of most cities. Also big fan of the dunkin' doughnuts down the road from here

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
