Manfred is very knowledgeable guide who knows the history of the city very well. He took us to the most important and the most interesting places. We learnt loads of new facts about the wall history, we learnt how the city looked like after the WWII. Any time we mentioned any sight or we asked questions about anything, he was very accommodating and he was happy to explain everything to us. Manfred is passionate about his work, he wants the visitors to get to know Berlin well and he made us fall in love with the city. Humboldt tour Berlin is amazing service, we felt very welcomed and I highly recommend this service to anyone. Lenka from Prague

I wanted to find out about the Berlin my mother grew up in, from 1930 to 1947. I sent Humboldt the few details I had found on Ancestry.com and that my mother had told me about. My guide was NADIN. She arrived punctually and was carrying a folder of 25 pages she had photocopied from a number of sources, such as the city directory, press clippings, personal memoirs and photographs of places in the first half of the 20th century. We then took a six-hour tour of the neighborhoods in Friedrichshain and Karlshorst. I was enormously impressed by her archival efforts, the deep sympathy for her subject matter and the way in which she tried to imagine the sort of subjects I would be interested in. She is an accomplished historian by training, so she can provide as much context and color as you need. It was such a pleasure to accompany her and I cannot recommend her highly enough. Also, Humboldt Tours is a good organization, and my interactions with Bjoern, the manager, were excellent, before my trip and afterwards.

I was curious and intrigued by Humboldt Tours because they had such amazing reviews. I had never been on a private tour except when in Africa. So, when I found myself alone with 21/2 days before a work assignment in Hamburg, I decided why not a city safari... From my first contact with Bjorn, I began to understand why all the 5 star ratings. He was responsive, thoughtful and receptive to what I thought my needs were. He made himself completely available should there be any concerns or wants. He is very appreciated! Then there is Manfred L. I will admit that when I read his bio, I questioned Bjorn about whether he was the right fit for me. I was so wrong! He in so many ways was exactly what I wanted. He is a wealth of knowledge and experience-history, architecture, culture. He is attentive and flexible, managed my incessant questioning with consideration and kindness, and provided an experience of Berlin from every aspect. I couldn't have asked for more. We covered the city and went to Sachsenhausen. I also value Manfred for giving me the opportunity to experience places off the beaten path. Thank you, thank you...

we recently went on an 8 hr walking, train and taxi tour titled the Battle of Berlin and a 4 hour walking, train and taxi tour of what was East Berlin. Our guide Sebastian was very, very good, courteous, helpful and knew his subject. I would highly recommend these private tours to anyone who has an interest in the recent history of Berlin and wishes to get slightly off the usual tourist routes and see more of greater Berlin. Humboldt tours are the "real deal".

I had never been on a private tour. After this experience I want to do this everywhere I go. Our guide was Nadin, who met us at our hotel at 9am and dropped us back there at 6pm after a full day of seeing central Berlin. We walked most of the time, logging about 8 miles. Because it was just three of us plus our guide, we moved quickly through the city and spent more or less time at places based on our interest. She brought along a folder of supplemental material that added to the trip (e.g., photos from the 1930s). What made this special was Nadin's deep knowledge of the city's history through all periods and personal experiences that she shared throughout the trip. As a lifelong resident with an advanced degree in history, she had lots to share about everything we saw. She was forthcoming about Berlin's past and showed us many places and things that are uncomfortable to talk about. And as she figured out what things interested us most, she changed her plans to optimize for us. Her tour made us appreciate Berlin so much more than we would have otherwise. She even told us about her favorite currywurst and schnitzel restaurants (which we later visited-- thumbs up on the former, and for the latter, perhaps I'm not meant to be a schnitzel fan). She weaved personal and family experiences into her narrative about the city's history, which made it more accessible for us. She spoke and walked nearly nonstop for 8 hours and maintained her enthusiasm throughout. I would recommend this experience highly for moderately active people (the distance can be taxing) who are interested in detailed history and idiosyncrasies of Berlin. Note that I selected "Friends" as the visit, though it would be better described as family (adults).
