My six friends and I went on the free walking tour with the guide Javier (Xavier?). The tour was amazing and we all learnt a lot about Berlin's history, politics and street art. We were quite a big group - around 20 people - but Javier was good at making sure that no one fell behind and we could see... More

We went on the alternative Berlin tour in the beginning of May. I have been to Berlin several times before lived there for a couple of months but Dave's tour had gave a whole new insight to this great city. He was enthusiastic, honest and very open throughout the tour. He shared stories about the city and the people And... More

Took the Street Art Workshop, and definitely got to see a side of the city I hadn't seen yet. Declan was a great and knowledgable tour guide - enjoyed the lesson at the end as well. Would definitely recommend it if you want to see some great art.

This is a three hour walking tour, starting at Alexanderplatz. You start along the S-Bahn, viewing street art, learning about the artists and the street art culture of Berlin. Along the way, you stop in an alley filled with beautiful art and also a coffee/restroom break. From there, you take the U-Bahn to Kottbusser Tor Station. You explore the Kreuzberg... More

Xavier's alternative tour of Berlin was our hands-down favorite experience of the trip. He's a wealth of knowledge and loves Berlin so much - it shows in his enthusiasm for the city and in sharing it with you. I learned so much about art, Berlin history, and discovered so many little gems I never would have without him. Highly recommend!

So glad we did this tour at the start of our weekend. Our guide Nicole was so typical of Berlin - young, radical and foreign! She was so enthusiastic and gave us a genuine flavour of the city past and present. Her tips on where to go - bars, music, flea markets etc. - shaped the rest of our weekend... More

We bumped it to Alternative Berlin Tours guys at Starbucks near AlexandarPlatz. Denise approached us in very warm hearted and explained us about the tour. She took care of every tiny detail pertaining to tour. Indeed, it was amazing how she knows so much subject, I noticed she truly believed in it and has immense respect for the Graffiti artist.... You don't know anything about street art but you'd be curious to discover this phenomenon as well as the less visible side of Berlin? Then this is the tour for you! If, on the contrary, you're a graffiti aficionado then don't miss out on learning even more about underground culture, artistic dialogue and overall this amazing city that is endlessly... More

Staying in Prenzlauer Berg

Neighbourhood Profile
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighbourhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.
