Serene, gentle place in a busy area. Nice to go in and sit down to collect thoughts away from other tourists. Just missed concert. Boo hoo!

Attended a Mozart Mass
Jun 2015 • Couples
Great old church with a long history. Had to be completely rebuilt after WW11 bombing. A few years ago we hosted a German foreign exchange student and wanted to go to Germany to visit her. She sings in the St. Stephan's choir and they were doing a Mozart Mass as part of the Mozart Festival. The church was packed to the gills and was a moving experience even though we did not understand a word of the Latin Mass or German church service.

One of the oldest churches in Würzburg
Aug 2011 • Couples
It is one of the oldest churches in Würzburg. 1803, it was the first Protestant parish church in Würzburg and is Dean Church since 1827. Founded as Abbey and is since 1057 Abbey Church of the Benedictine monastery of St. Stephan. In 1789 the monks replaced the Romanesque Basilica for a classical building. The bombing on 16 March 1945 it totally destroyed the church and it was rebuilt in 1952-1956. St. Stephan’s outer was reconstructed as the original was. In the interior were, for example, the pillars decorated with Materno Bossi's stucco, this is restaured. In the altar area choir stalls were installed, the crypt and the St. Michael Chapel rebuilt. Since 1954 the crucifixion Group (H Amman) stood in the middle of the chorus.
