Pleasant visit
Dec 2017 • Couples
Walking around the old town we called in briefly on Christmas Eve when there was a service happening, that seemed very nice as it seemed to be involving children a lot .
We returned today when it was empty to have more of a look around. It is very interesting and we found the statue of we assume Jesus floating down from heaven quite different and lovely.
Nice place to visit for a peacefull moment.

A simple but peaceful church
Sep 2017 • Friends
St. Johannis was a Catholic Church located along the shopping street in Rothenburg. It was red in color but looked simple on the external facade. If you paid a visit inside, you would find that it was equally simple, modern and peaceful inside. Nice to have a look inside.

Place of peace
Dec 2017 • Solo
Worth stopping because it is nice and offers some minute of peace from the crowds in the XMas markets outside. It is a Catholic Church, the interiors are simple as the facade.

Lovely Church
Dec 2016 • Solo
First I would like to note that the address for this church is wrong as it is on Schmiedgass right near the Criminal Museum. It is a pretty red church and was nice and warm on a cold December morning. Even with it being on the main shopping ctreet of the city, it is sometimes overlooked as it is not the cathedral for the city and is a Catholic Church. The inside is equally simple as the outside, but again is a nice sanctuary and a place to reflect.

Very good example of Historic Exterior & Modern Interior
Oct 2015 • Couples
The only active Catholic parish in Rothenburg. The historic exterior architect was retained while rehabbing the interior in modern German style - efficient & minimalist to serve the parish. Stained glass windows beautiful.

Lovely medeval church

The audio guide is a great deal! two tour (art history and spiritual), two organ concerts, and several options for additional information.
The gift shop sells items made in the sister city in an African nation. Beautiful woodcrafts with religious and non-religious themes.

Quite simple for a catholic church but probably as much because of the purist protestant competition which dominates the town.
Lovely slanting light through the arch windows.
For once understatement wins the day.

The Only Catholic church in town.
Aug 2015 • Couples
This is a very, very old Catholic church and it is still in service today. It is worth a visit to see the simplicity of the inside.

Beautiful Medieval Building, modern minimalist interior
Oct 2014 • Couples
Let me preface this by stating that I am an old church fan, and Catholic so my comments come from my particular cultural background. Firstly, Rothenburg was/is a "Protestant" town and fought on the Protestant side during the 30 years war. This is the only Catholic Church in town. The exterior is rather simple BUT authentically period, and a nice representative example of a small parish church. The interior, however; is a disaster. In typically German fashion the inside has been gutted and replaced with modern "minimalist" alter and crucifix. It is totally devoid of any period decorations or architectural pieces. In my opinion it is ugly.

Yes, I attended mass here, and it was a typical German service. Short and to the point.

I hate to see old spaces changed to fit "modern" sensibilities. In my opinion as a tourist you can look at the exterior and skip the interior all together. Nothing to see here, and it clashes with the period feel outside the doors. The parishioners may like it, but as a visitor it has nothing to offer.
